8374 on stock engine results, pump93

After my FP red took a dump, I decided to go the EFR route and had the 8374 CBRD kit done at CBRD in York, PA.
My 08 is stock engine, ETS intake w/3" MAF, id1000, aem320, gs ebcs, AMS 3.5" ic, ETS hard piping, AMS dual exhaust, test pipe.

The FP red felt like an upgraded stock. The 8374 keeps pulling everywhere. The 8374 also spools the same as the FP Red and makes more power everywhere. This is the IWG kit.

443whp/327wtq (low-reading mustang), spools around 4k (overlayed w/FP red)

CBRD sent me a block off plate for the internal bypass valve as I was having partial throttle fluttering. I put back my Tial QRJ and now there's no fluttering during "normal" highway driving at 80mph @ 4k rpm in 5th. Pulls just as nicely. Transient response was slightly diminished with the Tial, but that's expected through eliminating the built-in bypass. The daily drivability is great now, and the turbo is quick to spool.

There seem to be no downsides compared to stock turbo on stock engine. Couldn't be more satisfied. Tuned @ 25 psi

Nice results!
so is this the 0.92 a/r internally gated TS T4 hot side or the 0.83 a/r internally gated SS T3 hot side?

.92 a/r iwg t4
Chad kept things on the conservative side as well

Good stuff. Mine is going to Chad in January for a timing chain and the 8374 kit. How many miles do you have on your 08?

JDMV8 Dec 19, 2018 08:19 AM

just hit 80k.
you'll love it :)

Nice, is that a small runner ts t4 manifold?

Do you by any chance have your original dyno off the car on stock turbo?
Curious how much bottom end is lost to either FP Red and/or 8374.
Not because its not worth it, but just to understand the change below 4000rpm.

How do you perceive the torque below 3500rpm, stock turbo to 8374?

Thank you.

yes, 1.25" runners

this is off of a dynojet at IveyTune in NJ. likely would've made high 200s on CBRD's dyno.
I wouldn't say too much daily drivability was lost to the red or EFR from stock.

JDMV8,

Can you explain more about the highway driving flutter? What exactly was happening? We aren't talking about surge here right?

I am about to tune my 8374 and don't have a BOV or want to instlal one (coming from an EFR 7163).

It happens because the turbo is starting to ride the surge line of the compressor due to being at part throttle but you're at the RPM where the turbo is getting enough energy from the exhaust that it's starting to try to make boost that the engine doesn't need. A softer BOV spring usually resolves this, which is why the QRJ fixed it. They likely used the -3psi spring it comes with.

im in the same route as you but instead i went with fullrace ewg and everything is almost done... i went with ewg because i read it before that the drivability sucks.. at what rpm do you start feeling the turbo to spool and what rpm do you hit full boost? would a 3inch intake bottleneck the 8374? i was actually expecting the 8374 to make 380tq tho but i guess not.

Wouldn't a 3" intake cause you to go way over your max MAF volt reading anyway?

I would have thought you need a 3.5" intake with nicely setup MAF...

i havent got a tune yet so im still in the process on prepping the car and see if i would need some stuff for the evo.. right now im using a ams cold air intake but if i would need a 3.5 intake then ill get one before the tune.

I'm looking at doing an 8474 and was wondering if you thought 300rpm's of spool loss would really make the car feel laggy. I'm just looking for as many opinions as possible about the 8374 before i make up my mind. Im thinking a little bit lower boost should keep the motor a little happier while still getting high 600's to 700whp.

Thanks

is there any pictures of the engine bay? did you mount the bov backwards?
