Thanks mrdecibel. I used to work at Best Buy and then Car Toys and had a very good system in a 5 series BMW I had. McIntosh MX4000 head with outboard DA converter and six disk changer, Orion Concept 97.2 EQ running through fiberoptics (precurser to the DEQ-30), Diamond Audio Hex components, Xtant amps, Fosgate Power 12's runnign aperiodic mats, Audio Control crossovers, hell all sorts of $$$$ stuff. But one thing that I have found, and one thing that suprised A LOT of people is that a so-so sub can sometimes sound good if you give it enough clean power. Now if you push it an burn the ferofluid off of the coils then it smokes, but they CAN sound better then you would think if set up right. Might not have the deeper frequencies due to a lower excursion limit on the suspension system (normally the spider strangly enough) but they can suprise you.

How much louder is the new JL sub compared to the stock rf sub? I know your only running 150w on the sub but is there noticeable difference?

The JL Sub plays the frequency range a lot better. The stock sub was a midbass monster, but had no bottom end. I am working on a spacer ring to put a JL W3 in place of the W1. I will also be adding poly-fil to increase volume.

Do you know the volume for the stock sub enclosure? I want to see if I can fit something else in there also.

Not sure on volume, but I did put in a JL 10W3. I had to use a 3/4 spacer ring to make clearance for magnet and motor assembly. Bass response is a night and day.

Nice. I'm looking to put a Rockford P3 shallow 10" in there. Not the best sub, but should fit with no modifications and keep everything rockford. I'll have to take it apart and see what the ohm rating is on the stock one. The P3's come in dual 2 or 4 ohm. And they are cheap!
