I use the escort 9500i....This is my second one (the first got stolen @ the movie theater :-( dam kids)...anyway i love it, it uses gps so you can lock-out annoying doors and security systems that give you false alarms. I have to admit the thing is pretty silent 98% of the time it does a good job of filtering put false alarms! It has saved my azz more that 50+ times. As far as cops giving you a ticket for it, it is undetectable to them (they use a radar detector detector lol)! They cant scan for it, if you ever get pulled over take it off the window. I give it a A+ considering i bought it twice! Over 1k spent lol

I considered the 9500i, but the V1 won out simply because of the arrows and the numbers. While researching them I was suprised that there so many people so diametrically opposed to one another about them, like Ford vs Chevy. But I guess its just to be expected. I move my radar detector from car to car but sometimes I forget and I've thought about buying a second one, and I may still stry out the 9500i or whatever the top Escort is now, but I have to ask a question to all the 9500i peeps, and if I sound like a V1 ad, it isn't intentional.

Okay so what happens if a cop is set up next to a false alarm source? You get no warning? With the V1 you'd get a number "2" and a maybe two arrows.

+1, same here, and agree 100% with the statement. Love those arrows!

I have had a V1 for quite a while now and I love it. I borrowed a few other detectors from people to give them a try and the V1 won out. The placement on the windshield is important, and the comment about "if you put it in the middle it attracts thieves", is true. But if your car ever gets broken into, insurance will not cover radar detectors anyway, so the best policy is to remove it at night or when you are in a questionable place. The V1 makes it easy to remove as the clip can stay on the windshield and the power cable has a quick disconnect on it. I think the placement wins over thief view.

It alerts you because it determines the cop signal does not match the saved signal signature (alliteration is as fun as it is cool kids!) and its coordinates. The new version (which you can upgrade the 9500 to) has an enhanced learning feature where it tracks signals based on location and if after 3 occurrences of the same signal in the same location it marks it as noise and doesn't alert.

I don't care who ya are, that's way cooler than an arrow.

While I'd love to have a V1, they are 3 times the price of a craigslist 8500 x50.

One thing that everyone with an Escort should do is put it into Expert mode. It tells you the strength and number of signals it detects. This has saved me a couple times when there are multiple LEOs.

Such a scenario has yet to come to fruition. Its pretty easy to figure out which way to look (50% chance of getting right). I can honestly say I have not used a V1 and therefore wont bag on it, just lauding my personal selection based on my research and personal experience.

I have two identical Escort 9500 IX. They are GPS feed and it displays 64 road messages and covers 5 bands. The 9500IX are the top dogs right now.

It also gives you the real GPS speed, speed camera location, speed traps, red light cameras, photo enforcement camera location, etc, etc

I use the Cobra because AZ has all speed and red light cameras - we don't have a lot of cops doing radar anymore. So the Cobra has the GPS built in to tell me when I am reaching a camera location. Most accurate database of cameras I have seen yet.

The radar & laser detection are really good too. Maybe not as great as V1, or the Escort, but I have never had a time when the Cobra failed to alert me.

For what it's worth, the best unit I ever had was my Bearcat Scanner with a built in detector that detected the signal between a police officers portable walkie-talkie and their car. It would tell me about a cop in the area even if they didn't have their radar on. It worked pretty well four years ago or so. Was hands down better than any radar detector I had.
