Aftermarket Car Speaker Adapters.

So what are people using to mount their aftermarket 6.5"

I'm in the process of putting my Focals in and notice the stock speaker adapter seems to be a twist lock mount, no screws. To make matter worse the stock speakers are glue/molded to the stock adapter plate.

Normally I would cut a piece of mdf and drill it to the stock adapter to mount the speakers. But in this case the stock speaker can not be separated from the stock adapter.

Anyone using a pre-made clean solution? Where I can find a evo/lancer specific speaker adapter.

I found one site http://car-speaker-adapters.com/items.php?id=SAK058 but they just have a generic picture. The description does say it fits our car. Well a lancer which is same as the evo.

There is only one pre-made speaker adapter on the market that will actually fit the Evo X, and its made by Alpine.. unfortunately, it's only being sold in Japan.

If you ever happen to track any down, please let me know! Seems everyone else is either making their own baffles out of MDF, or chopping up their stock speakers to use as an adapter. Wish someone in the US would just copy Alpine's design and sell it here, since apparently Alpine can't be bothered to.

Ya, I couldn't find it there either.. Nengun.com has it listed as in-stock for $110 - and I'm not even sure if that's for a pair, or just a single baffle.. plus there's probably additional shipping and customs charges on top of that.

Should be one pair per package, but don't quote me.

You could also do japan yahoo auctions and use a shipping service. Usually saves a few bucks.

Speaker brackets: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142SGMQ...-Brackets.html

Also, speaker harnesses (so you don't have to cut wires): http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1207103...Harnesses.html

Of course they don't fit right. Speakers use screws. The Evo's speakers use "push in and twist to lock". Speakers are round. The Evo's speaker holes are triangular. Pull the old speakers, line up the adapters, mark, drill, screw.

Ya, I'll just chop up my stock speakers before drilling into the car's sheet metal, thanks. And if you actually read my posts above, you'd see I know damn well how our speakers are designed.

lol, some people like me don't want to put screws through my door.

Anyways I ended up making some adapters out of mdf and copied the alpine design. Screwed the adapter in the 3 stock holes and used nut, nylon washer, and bolts to secure it. Tried to eliminate metal on metal contact due to rust. I seen how when people screw the nails direct to the metal over time it rusts due to rain water hitting it.

The end result is pretty damn good. No rattles what so ever.
