Any Regrets Upgrading Factory Head Unit

I was wondering if any of you have any regrets upgrading your car's factory head unit to an after market head unit. I am thinking about upgrading my factory radio but i am wondering if you guys have had any issues with whining as you you accelerate.

Also i was wondering if you noticed a lot of body and interior rattle if you added a a sub. I know most dont like to add the sub because it takes away from the sound of the engine. I have only had my car for three months and i just wanted to get some advice from my fellow X enthusiasts. thanks for sharing your experiences with me.

it depends on how much of an audiophile you are. I completely gutted mine. New everything. I matted all four doors and made custom rings for the speakers. Bass response for my front stage came out amazing. As for the sub...it sounds like **** pretty much. I bought the aftermarket box that fits where the Rockford would normally sit. There is just too much rattle, and that's after a layer of dynomat. There is the exhaust heat shield that rattles to all hell and the rear plastics sing along with the music. I haven't had time to completely strip the rear and dyno every loose piece. That's what it will take to have a clean sounding system in this car. But no I don't regret it, it just takes a lot of patients and a good tune. then again most people wont sink 6k into their stereo system.

most people aren't disappointed in upgrading. but like above post says, depends on how much you love music and the quality of it

this is the wrong car to make sound good audio in. you have to remove the dash headliner carpet and soundproof those and then seal the trunk to do this ****titlily material put together car right.

ripped it out, never looked back. Both of my x's actually.
if you ad a sub, just get one with remote volume control and you can turn it down.

Gutted mine(RAAmmat), installed Focals components, 2 amps, WickedCAS 10" sub... sealed the trunk. Does't take $6K if you DIY, $2K max...

No regrets!!! There is definitely improvement in sounddampening from exhaust noise, music clarity and sound stage is improved, you get what you pay for and DIY rocks!
