Always backup YOUR ORIGINAL ROM and when going back to the dealer, flash to your backup and you should be safe.
That is exactly what happened to the guy who had his warranty voided. AMS flashed his car back to stock using a ROMID number that did not match the ROMID number that was originally on the car. When the dealer checked and found the ID on the car did not match what they had in their database, they voided the warranty for the blown engine claim.

That is why on every car that I tune I keep the original rom that I DLed from that car. When the car owner comes back and wants to go to stock, I flash the car with THE SAME exact rom that came from that car.

Thats why you need a good tuner who saves that info for you under your user info. If you flash your vehicle just make sure they save that info which a good tuner will. You should have no problems getting warranty work done upon flashing back to stock.

factory flash

If you are concerned about that, you should request that your factory flash be given to you for you to store yourself. Store it on a memory stick so that you can either have it flashed back, or flash it back yourself. If you are concerned about having the exact file from your specific ecu, this would be the way to go.

I am not sure if the "mail in the ecu" flash shops would do this for you or not, but I have a hard time believing that AMS or any reputable shop would have a problem with this. If you are sending your ECU out to be flashed, I would call whoever you are having it done by ahead of time, and make sure they're willing to do that for you, and send them a memory stick with your ecu. If you are actually taking your car into a shop to be tuned, bring a memory stick with you.

You can store the file on your pc at home, email it to yourself to store on a web based mail server, or whatever. Even if your pc is totally incapable of reading the file, it can still store it. Its all just 1's and 0's.....
