car whistles @ idle and while moving.

hey guys im sorry i bug yall with threads but the good thing is i always get helpful responses and i never get bashed so thanks for tht.

my question is y is my car whistle at idle and going down the road. i can hear it going 30+. could it be a boost leak (never had a turbo car so i dont know if it makes a sound) at first i thought it was my spoiler because ive heard of evo x wings doing tht. but im not sure now. it sounds like its coming from the bottom of the engine.

mods: Muse uicp, k&n drop in, megan tp hks hi power.
thanks

Does the sound increase or decrease with vehicle speed? Is it RPM related? Is it throttle related (aka louder at WOT?)

From your explanation it could be just about anything... You need to be more specific if you want an internet solution to a problem.

Boost leaks will vary with rpm rather than road speed. Have you checked that your undertray hasn't lost any fasteners? It can flap in the wind if you have.

ok its just a constant light whistle. it seems to fade out at higher rpms prob because my exhaust gets so loud. i usually notice it going through town going 30 mph.

and i have tightend all my tclamps so im almost positive its not coming from tht and also i dont hear it when i open the hood so thts y i think its coming from the bottom of the engine?

i really cant remember what it does at hwy speed i usually just notice it going through town. but i will check when i get off work.

Which gear at 30mph? What RPM? Under boost or cruising?

lets see i keep it in 3rd gear going 30mph. its prob between 2500 and 3000. and its not spoiling like tht. it still usually takes a sec to spool when i get on it.

Have you checked the gaskets and tightened the bolts on the exhaust? If you have a damaged gasket or loose bolt on the exhaust some air could escape and you could get that whisteling sound. Especially since you said it goes away at higher throttle. Then the air would be moving past the leak faster and wouldn't escape or whistle as much.

I would also suggest getting a buddy to rev it for you and laying under the car to try to pinpoint where it's coming from. My old car used to "puff" at idle. At idle it'd sit there and give of a fast "puff puff puff puff puff", and when I would rev it, it would whistle. Turned out I had a loose gasket.

Lift that plastic cover off and look at the vacuum hose line that's right behind the dip stick.

It looks off to me. I'm pretty sure I can see the nipple, and the hose doesn't look like it's going the right way.
