Bogging down and black smoke.

No problem during normal driving. Once I get on it a little, it will bog down and throw black smoke. I found out I was running lean and before I had time to get it to my tuner, my Walbro 255 failed. I got a new Walbro 255 put in. Than I saw Clipse3GT's thread about fixing the Fuel Return Line. I did the fix, put a new Blue Fuel Pump Relay in, and put new spark plugs in(gapped at .022). Its backfiring a little more than usual. I know a rich AFR will cause black smoke, but would it cause the car to bog down? Any other suggestion? Thanks in advance.

I dont ave a AFR gauge yet, its next on my list to get.

Get that thing to a tuner, its obviously running like crap and it sounds like you have no way to log what's actually going on.

Sounds like its running too rich under acceleration. Could be dousing the plugs hence no power and lots of black smoke.

boost leak? If it was fine on the same tune previously...... I would be looking for a boost leak... also, as far as I know you cannot gap iridium plugs easily.... so it's possible you borked one causing the spark issues.

Not a boost leak, I hit 27psi in 4th gear, just couldnt go WOT and I looked like a diesel truck when I did it. It was bogging down before I put the new spark plugs in, but I will pull them out to check them once I get home.

Why do you think its the turbo seals? Im not losing any oil, no white smoke from exhaust, no oil in the intake. Havent done a boost leak test, but I can hit peak boost(27psi), I just cant go WOT.

it's just my assessment..i could be wrong..i had the same experience with my turbo civic before..black smoke at full boost and wot..according to my builder at that time, it was the seals in the turbine side..(not really an expert where the seals are in the X turbos)..take note it's just my experience in a different car so it's possible that it could be the same or not..

the reason why i asked you if you recently did a boost leak because there were number of cases that after a boost leak test (in X's) their seals broke down.

but if you ask me, start at changing plugs first. have you tried the new plugs yet?

also if you could check the oil feed line if it has oil leaks or something..too much oil feed can cause smoke too..i just forgot what color it will emit..
