Is there a way to tell if the ECU is bad?

Hey all,

So I recently got a P0017 code and other random codes (U series codes) and a SES light on the dash. I was able to clear the codes with my Cobb AP and the only thing that keeps coming back is the P0017 code.

Took it into the Stealership and they checked the timing chain and it is fine. I don't think they checked the oil valve solenoid, sensors or any other components and came back to tell me that my ECU needs replacing due to my reflash. Before I plop down 1500 dollars for a new ECU, is there any way to tell if the current one is actually bad?

I got the actual CEL light on the dash (the big red triangle with Service Required) on the LED screen now when I start the car on the way to work this morning. Haven't had a chance to check the codes again as I left my AP at home.

I really don't know what I need to do right now. Do I go back to the stealership to get a new ECU?

No you take it back to your Tuner and ask him to check the tune,
If ECU is bad your car would not even start anymore.
Code P0017 & Service Bulletin 11-13-008

There is a service bulletin in relation to this code: 11-13-008.

Summary of bulletin:
MITSUBISHI: MALFUNCTION LIGHT IS ON WITH A STORED TROUBLE CODE RELATED TO THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR. THERE IS A PROGRAMMING ERROR CAUSING A MIS-DETECTION OF A FAULT. 2008-2011 LANCER EVOLUTION

Simple fix covered under warranty!

Thanks for the info. My tune has been fine for about 25k miles now. I even drove it across country with no problems. The damn stealership already flagged my car so they won't cover it under warranty. I guess I can just have them reprogram it still and pay for it?
