Can't Read or Test Write ECU - Error Log Provided
 

Having trouble connecting to ECU. Using EcuFlash 1433150. Uninstalled and re-installed, deleted directory, updated xml's all to no effect. This Evo X is a recent purchase, used. No information on possible previous tunes available. Keep getting the following:

Any insight? Do I have any options besides benching?

BTW 2008 GSR Starts and runs fine.

looks like someone has changed the "unlock" keys.

is this a factory ECU or has it been modified with EcuTek or other?

Your only chance is to bench it... unfortunately :)

That word "chance" concerns me. Is there a chance benching won't work? Also, what if I take it to a friendly dealer for the latest OEM ROM? I thought I've read about dealers overwriting EcuTek type tunes. Is this correct?

umm... I don't think the dealer will be able to overwrite it...

I say chance because I am not 100% sure "which" key they have changed. From memory the benching method uses a different key to the regular..

So hopefully they havn't changed both :)

Dont you just hate this sort of behaviour, it is the same as the tuner saying "this ECU belongs to me now!"

Thank you again! I really want to get my Tephra on this car. It's the only thing I removed from the old one before selling it. The tune on it right now is a nice solid tune but not as good as the one I made.




I understand why they do it. The first rule of intellectual property is 'lock your cabinet' BUT if they didn't leavee a work around open then I will be ticked.

Try benching it - I reckon that will work :)

I'm having the same issue with my 2008 GSR USDM. I had my car tuned by cobb surgeline. I'm curious what you guys are referring to when you say bench it. Merlin, I've been going through your evo x tuning manual thanks for that and props on the work and info provided. Please advise.

Nevermind I found the thread on benching the ECU. Is there some other method to work around the fact that Cobb may or may not have locked me out of my ECU? They claim to have given me the stock map on my AccessPort. Im trying to move away from the AP all together and do my own. Thanks for any information you guys can provide.
