AMS EVO X Test: Part Two - Boost Control and Fuel Pump test

After it became very clear that the boost tapered off poorly the next course of action was a boost controller and also to check the condition of the factory Fuel Pump

Below is a statement by Martin Musial of AMS (President, Head tuner and Engineer)

"Well we quickly bypassed the factory boost control system, which oddly enough has two boost control solenoids. We set boost to peak at the same factory level of 22psi but this time it held to 16-17psi at redline. Peak power now climbed to 265-270whp, that’s more like it! So now we’re holding roughly the same boost or 1psi more than an EVO IX and we’re making 10-15whp more, looking good"

While we were tearing things apart we thought it would be a good idea to test the limits of the stock EVO X Fuel Pump

Again a statement from Martin:

"We pulled the fuel pump and threw it on fuel pump test rig. Running the voltage supply at 12V and then 14V we measured flow rates at various pressures, from 40psi up to 100psi. The results where a little surprising as the stock EVO X fuel pump flows about 15%-20% more than a stock EVO IX pump. Depending on what the stock injectors are rated at the EVO X could have a stock fuel system that is capable of handling over 350whp."

Stay tuned guys, we are not slowing down anytime soon LOL

Eric

wow...That's a hell of an increase from just a boost controller.

wow very impressive..Exhaust, intake, piping and fmic should put the car around 350whp+! The question in everyones mind is now, how much power will these new motor hold reliably?

Eric, have you guys had a chance to pull the head off yet? Would be interesting to see how the new head is compared to the IX

looks like they may have gone to ECU controlled boost rather then load based boost control.

Do you not understand the relationship between boost and the powerband?

Where is peak torque made? You guessed it, right around when full boost hits, roughly 3000~rpm.
Where is peak horsepower made? Towards the upper part of the rpm spectrum, when boost isnt the same as it was at peak torque! WOW

The EVO X makes 22psi peak at 3000rpm! Where peak horsepower is made its not running 22psi, is this so hard to understand? Man you really get on my damn nerves, you try and nit pick anything you can. Now you're disputing with a shop that has made the fastest evo in the world.

The only thing you can gauge off of peak boost is the torque numbers, not horsepower unless it holds the same psi all the way to redline!!!

You mean target psi based instead of target load based. Both are ECU controlled.

I would imagine they have gone to target psi based as it looks like the 10 has a 3 bar MAP sensor.

Once we see the roms we will know more...

Martin went ahead and mapped the Walbro pump in the mix as well

The X Pump is pretty good
