Another Evo 10 on our dyno...
A local came by today to get his new Evo 10 baselined.
Run 1: 225whp/252wtq
Run 2: 221whp/245wtq
Run 3: 222whp/248wtq
AFR 9.5:1 across much like the other Evo 10 we dynoed last week was.
Had the same tugging up top, actually was a little worse thanthe last 10 we had on teh dyno. Feels like knock. One thing I observed is the throttle get's "sticky" when this happens. Shiv saw this as well on his evo 10. I'm thinking the electric throttle is stepping in a little there, much like the Mazdaspeed 3 does.
After the baselines I pulled the stock airfilter for shiats and giggles and did a run to see what would happen...
241whp/264wtq
18whp average gain peak / 16wtq average gain peak.
Even more impressive was there was about a 45whp gain at 6800rpm.
The impressive thing is that it only leaned out .3 afr on average, which is barely anything, gained about 2psi at 6000 (17psi instead of 15psi) about the same psi at peak torque. AFR's still below 10:1 afr. What I see from this is huge potential once we get tuning these things. Seeing what it gained from such a small amount of change in AFR is pretty impressive and shows potential.
I'm very excited about tuning the 10.

Three dyno pulls overlayed:

Boost / AFR overlayed:

Run 1 (solid lines) with air filter removed, Run 2 (dotted lines) with air filter in:

OH my god...gaining 45 peak WHP by removing the air filter is unreal!!!! I'm beginning to suspect the X was intentionally crippled for some reason. It seems like they tried their hardest to sabotage the power output of the motor.
Well yeah. Alittle factory detunning has always happenned with just about every performance car. It's great that the X is getting great gains. More than the car I want the motor. Someone will do a motor swap in the next two years.

This does NOT indicate a restriction in the intake system (which would've been more marvelous). The gains came from the fact that the car is running abnormally rich from the factory, and knock being present in the upper rpms and removing the airbox and the increase in boost leaned out the AFR (which probably avoided the knock condition) thus yielding the huge gain. If the car had the proper AFRs or even close to what the average stock turbo car's AFR range is and the filter was removed and gained that power throughout the entire rpm band with the AFRs staying relatively the SAME and no boost increase, THAT would be amazing!!

Boostez, it doesn't matter if the car is making these gains because it's so rich from the factory. The gains show the potential of the motor, being this detuned from the factory by running this rich and still making more power stock than the evo 9, and the gains...holy god. 45 HP towards redline! If the 9 was doing this you'd be all about it. Why do you refuse to give the car credit? You've already said that if it's proven that the motor makes more power mod for mod than the 9 indefinitely, that you'll finally give in an go buy one. Shiv told you that this was the case, still you won't relent. AMS has said that the car is a beast, and still you find things to complain about. Even in the face of proof that the x is the better overall car, you just can't accept it. Why is this? Why do you want your 9 to be better? That's what this is really about, isn't it? Get over it. If you don't want to admit that the x is the better, more capable car, then fine, don't buy one. But please stop trying to contantly criticize the car in every thread that shows the impressive gains that the car is making. It's annoying fanboyism.

The X is a better car and it has an awesome engine, drivetrain and everything else.
