Considering an Evo X from Evo IX

for those of you who have done it, or have driven both cars enough to know the difference, what are the pros and cons of switching? I know the mileage in the new X isn't as good... at least on paper it says that, and it seems the mods for the IX are much easier and cheaper.. or maybe it's just me. Is the paint any better? because the paint on the IX's sucks.

you'd be foolish to go from the 9 to a 10. Espeically if your just rolling over a loan...

Well since you already heard from two CT9A guys, I think I'll chime in.

I just made the move from a VIII to a X and I don't regret it one bit. The X is just overall a much better car. You actually get a lot more for $30,000 in a X than you did with a VIII or IX.

There's plenty of debates on here about the two of them. Fact of the matter is the X is making sick power already in it's first few months. And don't forget this is a brand new motor, chasis, etc. The IX had 7 years in development parts, etc.

From a monetary perspective, it may not be the best decision to go from a IX to a X, but if money isn't a big deal to you then go out and buy a X!

Paint is no better. Still getting chips badly on the 1/4 panel...worse so than previous evo's.

Wow, a bunch of evo 9 owners who have never even driven the X telling him to keep the 9... there's a shocker! But seriously, I have owned an STi before this and driven my buddy's evo 9 many times, and the X is the best of all worlds. The chassis is so much better in this car it's not even funny. The ct9a's chassis allows so much flex and twist in comparison. This gives the X a much more rigid and substantial feel when cornering.

The new tranny/AWD system is great, and AYC is the saving grace of AWD. The car's achilles heal is the weight though. It's chassis is stiffer and better, but heavier. The body is heavier because it's bigger in every dimension. The car has 7 or 8 airbags now, and more sound insulation. This all adds up to an almost 300 lb gain, which hurts it in a straight line. The new engine however, is better overall than the 4g63 from the looks of it.

It's aluminum and not iron anymore so it won't be able to hold the same amount of power without more major work, but it makes up or that by being more efficient, as well as having a much better head design, mivec on both cams, coil on plug ignition, stronger internals, the list goes on and on. It has been pretty much proven to make more power mod for mod than the 9, but this comes with a catch... it means nothing because it needs to have more power than a 9 to be as fast.

Its always going to need ~30whp more than the 9 to be competitive. So I would break it down like this: the X is built better, is more refined, handles better, but is slower in a straight line. If you want a track car/ daily driver then get a X. If you want a drag car, then keep your 9.

First off, it's not a dodge motor at all, second your beloved 4g63 has made appearances in such "high quality" cars as the plymouth laser and eagle talon. Aluminum blocks can make big power, and the 4b11 will most likely make around 700 hp on the stock block with some upgraded pistons and rods and arp head studs with a better gasket to holdthe top end down. This is no different than the 4g63, so who cares if it tops out at 700 instead of 1000? There are so many things that are better about the new motor that you refuse to acknowledge. Fanboys FTL.

I've never driven the 8 or 9 but I did beat them very bad a the track when I went on the road course at E-town. Now I know that has a lot to do with the driver but obviously this car is not as slow as these Evo IX guys are making it out to be. This car is a logical Evolution in the series, it looks wayyyyyy better in my opinion. I've gotten so many compliments and people honking their horn giving me props it's not even funny. I guess if you want to build a 1000 HP car then stay with what you got but if you looking to build a fast DD car then come over to our world you will never look back. If you look around the forums the X is making more power per mod then the IX and this is after having 5 months on the market, rest assured this car will be a better performer in the long run but we have to give it time to mature.

I totally agree^^

I have had an Vlll, a IX, and a X.

If you can afford it, the X is the overall best choice unless you want to have a drag car. And if you want to drag race why buy an Evo in the first place.

As a daily driver/road course machine the X requires very little extra to be done. I modded both of the others a ton. It's the better car overall -- even if those who don't like it and haven't driven it try to bad mouth the X.

Just traded my IX for a X!

No regrets, IX was of course much faster in its modded state but the X has just as much if not more potential. The X is a much more comfortable ride and way quite luxurious. The X also has a more mature mindset about it, don't quite feel like people are still giving me those "damn street racer" looks.

Even after getting a ride in a modded X at my last track day, it still has not inspired me to seriously consider switching from my Evo 8. If anything the track manners have reinforced my decision...
