i've been hearing this noise ever since i purchased the car - whenever the car is idle, i can hear this constant whistling/buzzing sort of noise. like "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep" but without the p and it's constant. i believe it's there as i drive too, but the engine noise would drown it out. at first i simply took it as part of the car's operation, but now i'm wondering. it's still there after i swapped UICP/LICP/FMIC, so i don't believe it's a boost leak. and it also seems like i'm holding boost just fine. anyone else know what i'm talking about?

 

I know exactly what your talking about. I've had the same thing since day one. Idk what it is. but I think maybe its the turbo spinning and makes that noise.

 

either of you have an aftermarket BOV? it could be that, if it's not tuned/ sealed properly.

 

no...like i said, it has that noise since day one, and i got the car brand new from the dealership.

 

that's a good guess - the noise would lower if the rpms drop below idle...maybe i'll need to sit in other evos and see if they have the same noise.

 

i think its fuel pump, mine makes it too.. only hear it at idle with audio and low noise around.

good call - i was working on the cat-back on a lift, and when i was checking for exhaust leaks, i hear the whistling, and it was very loud under the car. turns out it was the fuel pump.

not like it matters now because with my exhaust i can't even hear it
