Blips in throttle. Weird BOV scenario
Blips in throttle. Weird BOV scenario
By installing the stock EVO X bypass valve or blow off valve on backwards, could this cause the BOV to malfunction once installed back the proper way? The previous owner of my X must have had an aftermarket one and when they traded it in put the stock one on backwards. Me not being to EVO X motor savvy didn’t notice this until a few months after ownership. Also I have been experiencing hiccups in acceleration and a power loss. When I first bought the X it was pretty damn smooth and pulled like a 10 year old boy with his first issue of Playboy. Also just replaced plugs, cleaned up a tad but still blips in the acceleration. Also did a leak down test and in my opinion it looked as if the BOV could be leaking. Let me know what yall think.

Boost leak test and leak down test are not the same thing..... Did you do a boost leak test or a cylinder leak down?
Anyway, hesitation during acceleration could be a number of things.. knock retard, bad plugs, cracked pistons, rich missfire. And, strangely enough, many people confuse these symptoms with a slipping clutch, not sure how the two could be confused, but it seems to happen a lot that people report hesitation during acceleration only to find that the clutch is slipping.
Have you changed your gas station or brand recently? Messed around with boost?
Given how many X owners have installed "gay to atmosphere" blow off valves, you should be able to find a used one on the cheap to rule that out.
I'd say most common causes are knock retard and rich missfire, if the car has not been tuned that is.

My X is just not consistant on aggressive acceleration, sometimes more responsive then other times. This is very aggrivating since it used to just rock and roll every time I hit it.

Now I always use 93 octane gas, why else might I have knock retard? Is this very common to have a rich missfire? I know these things are rich. Also I know my clutch has some wear on it but how could I tell if it is definitly the clutch? I just ordered a new stock BOV from Mitsubishi. Should get it Friday.
Thanks for the response bro. Hopefully its just the BOV leaking. Oh yeah I had a boost leak test. Not leak down test.
