What was the problem with the 9's? Never payed much attention to the issues on those forums.

 

The problem was that some of the cams snapped where they are at their narrowest point (the oil groove for MIVEC). Happened to both Cosworth & Kelford (and others), I think. I don't think any one has said exactly what the cause was...but only Kelford have chosen to change their design slightly so that the oil groove is shallower - and therefore the cam is slightly thicker at that point. This is my (limited) understanding of it anyway.

I have ran HKS and Jun cams in my previous Honda and Nissan engine, never had a problem.

 

Just to clarify: those snapped cams only affected Evo IXs - and only a small percentage of those.

 

What about idle? Does cams make the car idle rough?

 

I've been told that with a tune they can be made to sound pretty much like stock.

Mind you, I like the idea of having a bit of lumpiness...adds a bit of character!
