What 35R turbo?

I'm looking for ~500whp reliably on a single scroll kit with pump gas, no meth. I will probably be doing Kelford-B with springs and rod bolts so I can rev to 8500 when I need to get this power, so keep that in mind.
I don't care too much about lag, as when I will want the power will be track days (road and 1/4)

I just dont know what turbo is the right path to go with, so I'm asking everyone here to choose one of the following:

GT3582R
HTA 82R
HTA 86R
PT6262
Other (let me know what)

I don't think Red will get me to where I want to be without meth or e85 and I just don't want to mess around with refilling meth and not having E85 anywhere near my house or the tracks.

Correct me if Im wrong, but the HTA 86 is the "biggest" of the listed turbos, that being said you can always refer to the wise saying: "Go big or go home".

HTA 86

The hta 3582 can be converted to the 86 for $600. You could get the 82 and upgrade later. I think the 82 will afford a little better spool time and drop off up top compared to the 86, but your X will probably never have the rev limit set high enough to worry about that. The PT6262 is a smaller turbo that isn't in the same class as the hta's mentioned. I voted for the hta3582.

A bolt-on option, ATP stuffed the GT3582R wheels into the Garrett bolt-on.

that ATP kit, once you add all the parts necessary to get it working, ends up costing as much if not more than an ETS kit. Not exactly a bolt on solution...

You will be able to make 500whp with the 3582HTA with cams and supporting mods on a mustang dyno with about 25psi. If you plan on dragging this car I would go with the 3586HTA. It really depends on how much power you want to make. I use my car for road racing and wanted fast spool. I did not see myself wanting more than 650whp that is why I went with the Twinscroll 3582hta. It really depends on how much power you want to make. Any 35r making 500whp is not at full potential so you will want more most likely.

If I were to go with it personally, I'd get their 3" intake and the AMS widemouth; so that'd add about $1k bringing it to ~$3600. The bonus of this setup is that it looks stock. Now, adding an exhaust manifold will definitely help power at the cost of stealth appearence, and that will bump the cost up to ~$4500, or a tad cheaper than the ETS kit.

If stealth is the goal, the ATP is the obvious choice. If that is not an issue, then it's a tossup between any of the kits. Managing heat under the hood is probably easier with the ATP though.

Thing with the ATP bolt up from the look of things is you need to use their downpipe because you need the external WGA. If you look on there site it says this under the pics:

"ATP EVO X GT35R turbo kit, externally wastegated. Twinscroll, stock location, includes all oil/coolant lines. Does not include some extra parts shown. These parts are sold separately: External Tial 44mm wastegate, 3" O2 housing/downpipe, 3" inlet pipe, 2.5" compressor outlet pipe."

You don't NEED the external gate. It's just the Garrett turbo with GT3582 guts. Therefore, it has the internal gate which you can bypass if you opt for the externally gated DP.

I am not sure about that, I am 99% sure since the item is called ATP EVO X GT35R EWG Twinscroll 600HP Bolt-on Turbo. Last time I checked EWG was external waste gate. Just my .02.

As the turbo uses the Garrett housings, it starts at least with the internal wastegate unless ATP cuts out the wastegate arm and flapper, at which point you have to use the external gate of course.

Give them a call to see if you can retain the internal gate if you want to save some money. Hiboost did have some positive results going to the external gate related to maintaining boost, but it's was not something significant.

My feeling is that ATP advertises the product the way they do because that's the configuration they tested it in to get their dyno numbers.

Indeed I would call them, I'm pretty sure that the internal WG held as low as 20 psi through the entire rev range on the GT30 so the GT35 might raise that minimum boost to say 24-25 psi but likely that wouldn't be an issue. Perhaps they even tested what the internal WG supported and have some hard numbers. The ATP O2 DP resolved my failed internal WG issue and gave me about 1 psi better boost curve in the midrange before the top end flow of the turbo started to be the limiting factor. So it was a positive upgrade but not that much difference when you come down to it.

Called them today, they said it require an external WGA.
