MAF Sensor Relocation (blow by setup)
MAF Sensor Relocation (blow by setup)
Hi Guys,
In the process of doing some changes to my Evo X and before i proceed any further would like to know if its possible or if anyone have done it to move the MAF sensor to the charge pipe (blow by) like some STIs, GT-Rs, Zs, etc. Some vehicles have no issues with this setup and was wondering if its possible, if so where it needs to be located how far away from throttle etc......thanks in advance!

I think blow by is a better set up, and I am pretty sure the stock MAF should be fine with it. You would want it located on the straight section of piping just before the TB. I dont remember how long that section is but a couple inches away from any bends or the TB would be good.
You would then want to relocate you BOV to anywhere prior to the MAF and you could go VTA without any problems because the MAF will always see the correct air.

Thank you for the input guys, im going to research a lil more for this set-up, have part of what i want to do and hopefully with the help of my tuner we will make it work. Will keep you posted once i get something started!
I am really thinking about trying this out. My tuner thinks it would work with possibly some tip in issues to sort out but it should solve any fan issues with the primo intake. If we can figure out something we will post up the results.
The main concern my tuner has is that my X is an MR and according to him the MAF have some type of communication with the TCM and shifting points......its doable since its very similar to the GT-R platform its just going to take time to figure all glitches and other things we might encounter.
hmm interesting..yea the blow through setup would be a great idea if it will work..in for some answers and results.
if it can be done without any issues, it will solve the scaling issues for the intake..but i'm not sure how it will affect the fuel trims though, with (for example) a big intake tube..

This should be feasible on the Evo X using the stock MAF since it's a hot-wire type unit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_fl...nsor_.28MAF.29). This wouldn't have been possible on previous Evo's due to the nature of the karman vortex-type sensor and the construction of the stock MAF unit. Karman vortex MAF's absolutely do not work in a blow-through setup.
I know with twin turbo conversions for the 370Z, they retain the stock hot-wire MAF sensors in the stock locations just upstream of the throttle bodies.
I'm interested to see your results!

Great idea.
Although with the common 2.5" pipe it would max out pretty quick, s the stock location does.
But you cold make the housing as big as you wanted - surely you still need to scale though?

yeah, that would be a problem. at least a portion of the uicp would need to be 3.5" diameter. or if tephra can figure out how to make the ecu run on MAP only, we could be done with the MAF.
