Tanabe Concept G and others
Tanabe Concept G and others
Note: I Googled this first. I found some info but not enough to really answer my questions so I am asking here since there is a lot of experience in these forums.
I am sure somebody is always asking a question about exhaust and a lot of it comes down to personal opinion. There are so many choices out there I am just trying to find the same thing as most others, something that adds performance, sounds and looks good. I came across the Tanabe Concept G but there doesn't seem to be a lot out there about it like some of the other exhausts. Is it because it's just not that popular? Good? Price? I really like the look of it. Seems like it is well made and the one sound clip I heard sounded good. Anybody out there have it?
Also a question for you those more experienced with exhaust, I notices some of the dual exhaust have their own muffler on each end and others go into one muffler and then split from there. I like the look of the Tanabe style with the dual "packs". Is there any performance difference or just preference?
And one last question, maybe a crazy one, but I noticed on the FQ 400 the exhaust comes out the middle of the rear. I think it would look pretty damn cool to have two 4" like the Tanabe but coming out side by side in the middle. Is this something that is physically impossible? I know something would have to be done to the diffuser but any clearance problems having it come straight out the back like that? I know nothing about making exhaust or engineering but it seems as though a muffler shop could take an already made exhaust and do some bending and maybe a little cut and welding and easily stick it straight out the back, but the fact that I have never seen it makes me think it's a lot more difficult than it seems to me.
Thanks again for taking the time to read and answer this. 6 months with the Evo now and I gotta do something to it. The ETS intake has only given me a few months of enjoyment, now it's time to make a little more noise and power.

no experience with the tanabe but:
as far as your second question goes its all about how the single muffler is packaged vs the split. if there are flow restrictions you lose power. the inside of the stock evo x muffler is retarded restrictive, so either way you're talking day and night difference. the restrictive nature of the exhaust is going to dictate the power, not the outer look/packaging.
as for your third question its definitely not impossible. im sure any local shop or a custom exhaust shop could tell you in a minute how difficult/what the cost/ etc. i do not think there is any thing in the center behind the diffuser to block piping but just watch out for heat. the reason i guess you havent seen it is because it would require mods to the diffuser, the evo already has two good locations for an exhaust exit, and we have plenty of available options for nice sound and good power gains.
good questions though.

Thanks for the response. I think I am now leaning towards the Ultimate Racing Titanium dual exhaust. This is turning out to be quite the process. Just don't want to buy something I am not happy with because I will be stuck with it. Good thing I am still saving for it, gives me time to research.
