Turbo Spool and BOV
Turbo Spool and BOV
I have grown up in the DSM world, begining with the 1g Talon, moving to the 2g Eclipse, and finally, my Evo X. The one aspect that I miss with my Evo is actually hearing the turbo spool up when you punch it.
I had a lot of aftermarket on my previous rides, so I am relatively experienced with standard mods. Currently, I just have exhaust on my Evo. If I were to go with a hard pipe intake, would I get back a little more of that turbo spool sound at all with the Evo? How about the recirc bov? I am not looking to vent at all and get total Fast and Furious woosh, but the recirc sound off the pipes was always one of my favorites.
I am guessing going with hard piping will help all of this out, but I wanted to be sure before dropping the coin. Thanks in advance.

I believe I remember hearing people say that if you replace your stock air filter with a cone air filter, you'll be able to hear the turbo spool.
But of course I could be mistaken, don't have an evo yet.

Switching to an open element cone filter will definitely enhance the stock bov sounds.
Add in a metal or silicone intake inlet, and it will be pretty audible.
At first, I just attached a 3in cone filter directly onto my MAF housing. If you search these forums, you'll definitely find the how to. This mod also only costs ~50 bucks for the filter. You can also go with a more professional looking MAF adaptor + filter, such as the Cobb SF intake. Then add in a cobb intake inlet. Total price is around $200.
Of course you can always just go with a full intake, such as ETS, K&N, AEM, or AMS. However, these options will cost $230+.
