ABS, AYC, 4WD failure woes (SOLVED)

Hey guys,

It's that time of the year when my Evo decides that it's not going to act right. Car is a 2014 GSR and hasn't acted right after i had a good time installing extended studs.

The back left sensor was rusted to the knuckle and broke into a few different pieces on it's way out. I also had to get in there with a proper size drill bit to clean out the parts that had stuck themselves to the sides. I replaced the sensor and then the axle a few days later since I had jacked up the debris ring pretty good with the drill bit.

Unfortunately it's still doing the same thing it was before and I'm pulling consistent codes:

C100A - Abnormality in FL wheel speed sensor circuit
C1015 - Abnormality in FR wheel speed sensor circuit
C1043 - Abnormality in periodical signal for RL wheel speed sensor
C1044 - Abnormality in periodical signal for RR wheel speed sensor

This past weekend I went and had the car realigned but the problem persists. I can see the system recheck itself at every start and then try to adjust for things as the car moves. It pulls everything back offline ~15mph producing the same errors every time. Is it possible for one sensor corner to throw the entire system out of balance?

Any thoughts or opinions would definitely be helpful. Taking out and cleaning the newly replaced back left sensor (RL) is on my list of things to do first at this point.

see my last post for fix

I suppose anything is possible, but I'm not sure how that would even happen.

Car is currently sitting at 55k and yes sir, it's on a square setup:

18x10.5+10
265/35/18

What kind of sensor did you replace it with?

Also you should do this, taken from Evoxforums

Doing so will create voltage usually 1.5 volts or so. The faster you spin the more voltage. Or ohm the resistance in the sensor and compare to the other side.

This will tell you if you have a bunk sensor or if you have a different issue up stream.

I bought a known good one off of a parts car that's close to me.

I had entirely forgotten about this test, thanks for reminding me. It'll be the first thing I do when I get home today!

Well I got some interesting results.

Both runs were @40mph steady:

Rear Right was producing various numbers up to .9vdc
Rear Left stayed between 35-36mV pretty consistently which matches the static value of the sensor.

...I think it's a safe bet that the "known good" sensor isn't so god after all and some overnight parts from Japan may be required. 😂

Any thoughts?

Id say you cant trust a known good sensor, Swap it out with the good sensor maybe and see the results? Before pulling the trigger

i totally agree. Only problem is that I don't have stockpiles of these things sitting around and I have to buy them one at a time since I don't have any Evo friends around.

Fortunately I have been able to find one on eGay where the seller has a 100% refund policy - I went ahead and bought one and it should be here in a few days.

When it gets here I'll install it and report back. Thanks for the help so far!

Just an update:

i replaced the the sensor today and had no luck - same problem as before, same codes as before, and I'm back to the drawing board. 😑

I've read every thread and the troubleshooting procedure for each one of these codes and it seems like they all wind up replacing the computer a some point which is really great.

i think what I'll wind up doing is testing out the warranty on this **** and see how far that gets me. Probably won't get very far, but I've honestly had enough fun with this problem child to last me a while.

Well folks - I fixed it.

Turns out the bearing ring was messed up and caused a fault code on every corner. The damage probably occurred when I was cleaning out all the pieces of the broken speed sensor with a drill bit (derpderp.)

Here's it's replacement. Everything checked out and the car is fully functional again!

Glad this chapter is over with. I've learned more about ABS and all that than I really cared to. Good news is that I can pass tech for the next event.
