Smile Can the stock BOV handle a Garrett GTX 3582R Dual Ball Bearing Turbo Gen II?

Hello everyone! I am currently laying out the build I want for my '14 Evo X GSR. I'm in the process of purchasing a Garrett GTX 3582R Dual Ball Bearing Turbo Gen II. I want to know if the stock BOV can handle that size of a turbo or if I need to get an aftermarket BOV. Below is my current build:

K&N Typhoon 69-6546TWR Air Intake System
AMS Wide Mouth Downpipe
Team English Racing Boost Activated Test Pipe
3” ETS Intercooler w/ UICP & LICP
AEM Electronic Boost Controller
Competition Clutch Stage 3 Segmented Ceramic Clutch Kit
Competition Clutch Ultra Lightweight Flywheel

My final build goal:

K&N Typhoon 69-6546TWR Air Intake System
AMS Wide Mouth Downpipe
Team English Racing Boost Activated Test Pipe
3” ETS Intercooler w/ UICP & LICP
Eibach Springs & Bilstein Struts Pro Kit
AEM Electronic Boost Controller
Competition Clutch Stage 3 Segmented Ceramic Clutch Kit
Competition Clutch Ultra Lightweight Flywheel
Garrett GTX 3582R Dual Ball Bearing Turbo Gen II
ETS Tubular Turbo Manifold
GSC Power-Division Billet Evolution X S1 Camshafts
TephraMod V3
BlueFlex ECA Full EVO X Flex Fuel Package
MAP EVO X E85 500whp+ (650whp+ 93oct) Fuel Upgrade Kit
Includes- ID1300 Injectors, Inline Fuel Filter Kit, Fuel Pump Install Kit for Walbro 450lph, 450LPH High Pressure E85 Safe Fuel Pump
AMS Performance Fuel Rail Kit

I would like to know if the stock BOV can handle this turbo. If so after the full build would I still be ok with the stock BOV or should I upgrade to an aftermarket. If I do need to upgrade any suggestions on what BOV to choose would be helpful. There are a lot of options to choose from and I'm not sure how to pick based on my goals. This car is my daily. I usually do street races, 1/8 mile and considering doing some track racing but I don't plan to do it often.

Again thank you for the time in reading this.

TL DR- Can I run my setup without an aftermarket BOV and if not what kind should I get?

If you plan to run higher than 26 psi I would look to upgrade it. Tial seem to be very popular in my area. There are many good options though.

Tial QR with a 6psi spring if you're going to run boost past 26-27psi. Otherwise the stock BOV is fine.

However, I would be looking at a turbo kit. The stock frame stuff isn't the best to be trying to push big power from.

Ok thanks for the input. I honestly don't know how much boost I want to run. I do want to up it but nothing that will put lots of strain on the engine.

Thanks! I have looked at Turbo kits but I already own half the parts they sell. The only major pieces that I don't have is the Turbo and the exhaust manifold and the turbo is to be purchased relatively soon. I specifically looked at ETS. Outside of needing the following:
  • Oil Feed and Drain Lines
  • Water Feed and Drain Lines
  • Turbo Gaskets and Hardware
  • Clamps and Couplers
I think I have all I need except the turbo and manifold of course but I could be wrong. I just want to make sure I'm getting everything I need to build this power safely.

Use a Tial QRJ with 1.5psi spring. Best aftermarket BOV I have ever used. First one that has even better drivability than stock and still holds a ton of boost. Key is the spring. The way the QRJ is designed you don't need a crazy spring.

Mine has zero issue holding 30psi out to 8800rpm.

Do you own parts to run a T3 or Vband hot side? If what you're planning on running is a stock frame manifold and exhaust housing, the two setups are not the same.

I don't know much about BOV but I will look into this. Thanks for the idea.

No I wont be using the stock manifold. I'm looking at getting the ETS Tubular Manifold or buying the ETS turbo kit which comes with a manifold. Not sure about the latter tho because I already have a downpipe and an UICP. Once I purchase the turbo I'll need 2x Tial MVS Wastegates, Wastegate Dump Tubes, Oil Feed and Drain Lines, Water Feed and Drain Lines, Turbo Gaskets and Hardware and Clamps and Couplers according to that kit.

The stocker will bleed boost after 1.7 ish Bar of boost.
I run a turbosmart IWG 75, and Turbosmart Dual port BOV with uprated spring, which allows me to hit 2.1 bar peak all day long

The stock BOV can handle any size turbo up to 24-26psi and then it simply cant hold itself shut and becomes a massive boost leak.

After that 100% go with a Tial BOV, Q if you switch to speed density, or a QR if you still run a MAF.
