My X's problems!

Hello!

My name is Ben, and I'm from warner robins, GA.

I've been having some problems with my X in the past few weeks... I took it in to the mitsu dealer to have both flashes done, and it seemed to work better. I then installed the AMS single exhaust, and had no problems, but when i installed the AMS intake, my car started having issues! In idle, my car's rpms drop really low, and jump back just over 1k rpms in a wavering fashion... it starts out small then progressively gets bigger.... Sometimes the car stalls at stop lights in neutral/clutch in. I havent figured out WHEN exactly it does it (hot/cold, AC on/off etc). I havent tested it in colder weather (because it's GA) but i dont recall it really having problems at night (may be unrelated). My setup is - AMS intake without the breather bung, the line to the boost controller left open, and a breather on the other line. If anyone knows how i could fix this problem, it would be much appreciated! I do have an AEM truboost controller i havent put on, maybe that would be a fix over the stock.

My second problem is that sometimes the car will TURN OFF while im driving. I've noticed it only does it after I make a pull, but i dont want it to become a regular thing. I almost had an accident this morning because i was going to take a nice S curved exit ramp at a "spirited" speed. I entered (like normal) at around 60 mph, and as soon as i was about to make the turn to the apex the car turned off on me, and the power steering was gone, and the brakes didnt work as well. Lucky i still stopped/turned just enough to get the car running again, and I only rolled off the road a little. This could be related to the first problem, because im pretty sure I had the clutch pushed in before i made the turn.

Anyways, if anyone is having similar problems, or knows the cause/solution to this i am def. ready to hear it!

Thanks!

maybe it's time for you to send that ecu for a base flash! ams ftw!

Either take it back to your Mitsu dealership or call AMS for some advice since you're using AMS performance parts. {thumbup}

maybe its related to what a lot of people are experiencing after installing an intake. from what i have read some are having problems when the a/c fan switches on. hence bushur and some have made their own "shield" from the a/c fan.

Ha ya my car was doing this too. You need a TUNE. I say again you need a custom TUNE, that should fix everything.

Yep read the modding for dummies thread.

A tune is absolutely required with an aftermarket intake. They completely throw off the MAF sensor.

Well great. I wanted to wait to pick up a few more parts first! Guess i have to suck it up and fork over the dough :(

whitersevo Aug 16, 2008 06:21 PM

why dont you just take off the intake until you get a few more mods like you want..and then put it back on?

fryedchikin Aug 16, 2008 06:22 PM

You could always just put the stock intake back until you get your other parts together.

Lol, it's hard to go backwards in mods! I might try something suggested to me in PM's, if that doesnt fix, then I'm def going back to stock intake.

You have another PM ....

I have a problem and have it rather isolated. My rpms drop like you describe in certain conditions. When the clutch is engaged, I am braking, and usually turning the wheel, the engine has a tendency to die, especially if the AC is on. The easiest fix is to release the clutch with it in gear, this is like a jump start, but I can usually turn the key as I drive pretty controlled around town. Downshifting to stop prevents most of this issue for me too.

How big of a hp are you guys getting with the cai? It sounds like it is a safety hazzard to me.

Isnt there a post to where air is blown from the fan when ac is on and enters the intake and causes idle problems. But the shutting off part has to be in part of what I put in bold in your post. I dunno about that

kimletrim Aug 16, 2008 11:57 PM

I have this issue too, but I know what causes it since I have an open element intake. I don't even sweat it.
