exhaust with a switch from loud to quiet

I heard there is an exhaust that can be either quiet or loud with a switch that is installed inside the car ...something I overheard my buddy saying is this true? He stated they cost 1k+

He probally means the QTP Exhaust Cutout. I have one on my car that I had welded into my testpipe.

When you flip the switch, it dumps the exhaust at the bottom of your downpipe, so your basically running no exhaust.

When you close the switch, it runs through the rest of your exhaust, so its much quieter.

they are cheaper than that...look up QTP electric cut out...its good for people that want to keep their stock exhaust for that sleeper look...but once that cutout is open it sounds BEASTLY!

Yes they are. As I stated, I just bought this and had it welded into my test pipe.

It looks like it could be pretty handy for $200 if there really are those gains over a high flow exhaust. I'm wondering if the dead end leading to the valve causes a slowdown in the exhaust when closed so that the horsepower of a high flow exhaust goes down making the cutout show bigger gains?

I really want to quiet down my ETS exhaust and I'm considering a high flow cat with one of these cutouts welded on. Then I can get a 3" resonator welded into my mid pipe and really cut down on noise for normal driving. When racing it will make it loud as hell!

The only thing I can see as potentially bad is if I run race gas will enough lead still flow down the regular exhaust to clog the cat or would it be flowing 90% out of the cutout due to reduced back pressure when open? If it will still wreck the cat I'll mod a mini muffler test pipe in it's place.

does the exhaust mess with a tune if you keep switching from closed to open etc..?

any vids with evos and the cutout pipes?

I ran one of these on my X last year.... Worked great for daily driving.... not so great at the track. The excessive heat melted the flap and it welded itself shut. But for daily driving, it was fun being able to silence my exhaust on the fly.

I was going to go this route as well but i was talked out of it because i herd that they leak when their closed. Which will cause that annoying ticking sound, and will leak fumes out when your idling.

That sounds about right. I was wondering how bad the leakage would be given that there doesn't appear to be any seal whatsoever, so even when it's closed exhaust will leak by. You can tell that just from the picture posted.

Get the electric one. I had one. I had my stock exhaust and an aftermarket on the other side, open it up, gets nice and loud, flip it back when your see the police, no trouble

How much did it all cost you including installation?

Wow that ecv butteryfly valve looks cheap as hell ... there should definitely be a seal or gasket ...

I had my friend weld it into my current test pipe, so that part was free. We installed it ourselves, just ran a power for the switch and then connected it to the cutout via the drain plugs under the carpet.

The actual cutout (the one I linked to on ebay) ran me about $200.

So I paid $200 and had a friend weld it in / help me install it. I'd say another $100 if you were to have installation and welding done.
