Put on my exhaust and now there's a noise

So I just installed my buschur quiet exhaust and ets tp (waiting on my ets dp to arrive) and now I have a weird noise coming from my exhaust. I had noticed a ‘clicky/rattling noise’ coming from the engine before when I would start it up, took it in to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong. This noise is coming from the back of the engine (or so it seems) but goes away once the engine warms up. Well now with my new exhaust I can hear it coming out of the exhaust, sounds like something is rattling but once the car warms up it goes away. I already went back and checked to see if anything was rubbing and for leaks, couldn’t find anything. Is this normal or should I put back the stock exhaust and take it back to the dealership?

Your exhaust is vibrating and hitting the floor board on passenger side a little past half of the car...mine does the same annoying ****...

No tune yet, will be getting one within the next 2 weeks or so, how would the tune get rid of the 'noise'? And I'll check the spot to see if its hitting.. why would the noise go away after the car warms up?

What type of sound is it? rattling? hitting? exhaust leak? ticking? There is a number of things that it can be hitting below. If it's a rattling or hitting noise you could lift the car and shake the exhaust and see if you can replicate the noise, if it's an exhaust leak you will hear a faint ticking or loud ticking noise.

Let us know!

It sounds like a rattling or hitting noise I had a similar noise with my exhaust. Check your exhaust to make sure it isnt hitting anything.

Yeah thats what I plan on doing this weekend, what I find weird is that it stops after the car warms up.

Is it hitting any heat shields?

That is normal sounds raspy and loud when cold. Once the metal warms up it is more flexible and makes less noise. Mine is the same.

Do this as a test:

Turn the car on from cold and let it warm up for 3minutes or so. Drive it around for 5 minutes. Turn the car of and wait 10 seconds then turn it back on the noise will not be there because the car is warm and so is the exhaust.

My car does the exact same thing. Perrin catback/SC testpipe/Ultimate downpipe. It started when the testpipe went on. No worries.

Did this and yes.... the noise is gone...

Yeah, I've checked the whole car to see if its hitting and nothing... so I'm just going to say its normal :) and stop worrying.

just to give an update to this....

I put on a stiff front motor mount and the sound has gone away.

erniebu May 15, 2010 07:06 PM

Since I put my ETS DP is seems louder when I start it up but once it warms up its gone. If I turn the car off and wait and then turn it on (as long as the car didn't completely cool down) the noise isn't there. mmmmmm just annoying because the exhaust sounds crappy when I turn on my car.
