Intake or drop-in? What's your preference and why?
I read on here on one of the stickies a lonnnng time ago that unless you are pushing 400 whp that an intake is a waste of money. I went with a green performance drop in around X-mas time, but I thought i'd get some opinions since I am about to get tuned again. My max HP would likely be 330 or around that area, but it's not getting dynoed either so I can't provide proof. Perhaps I should clean and oil the filter before getting tuned?

i personally went with an AMS intake...it just sounds way better than a drop in filter....
other than that, a drop in filter would have suited all of my needs....i don't plan to go big turbo if you want sound, go full intake...its a waste getting a drop in for sound if you want performance budget, get a drop in filter |
I went with Cosworth drop in cuz I'm in CA and cops sucks. Sound IS more agresssive then stock at 4k+ rpms. Sounds n pulls good to me!!

I like my AEM.
Lately I've been watching the used sections. A used intake can go fairly cheap. |
I was just wondering if there had been any back to back comparisons between the top name intakes and the top named drop-ins... but I haven't found any.

yeah, sound I could care less about. I like my car as much of a "sleeper" as it can be considering it's an Evo already.
i believe there are quite a few guys out there with FP red running stock airbox with drop in filters....and they are still producing some good numbers....i am pretty sure if they ran a full intake it would provide more gains (15whp?)...but it all depends on what your goals are...if you want to keep it sleeper and can live with the more restrictive air box on your FP red, then i'd say go for it and keep the stock box |

i'm not using a red.. I have a green performance filter already, so i'm not switching. There's not much difference in the drop ins as long as they are a good quality. Green is supposed to be one of the best.
I doubt the 15 more whp by simply adding a CAI. well I doubt theres any sort of gain between full intake and drop in on stock turbo....what I was saying is, if you're running on an FP Red or upgraded turbo... |

your all set buddy....happy tuning and let us know on the results! With Mellon's tunes though, you can always be assured that the tune will be top quality and won't be finished until he is absolutely satisfied that every bit of power has been safely gotten out of the car. |

I would, but unfortunately it's an email tune, not dyno, so all I can do is write a review and if I ever get to a dyno, I will post the results, but there isn't many dynos around here.

with our ecuflash/evoscan tuning we can provide a virtual dyno plot so you can see what your numbers would be similar to on a dynojet.
