OEM turbochargers - what is the difference
 

I would like to ask for some help and explanations.
Here in Europe it is said that there are 5 different kinds of the OEM t/c for Evo X.
Supposedly USDM ones are weaker than EU which proved to be right in my case.

I started looking for OEM t/c and here is what I found but without any info on what the difference is:
- 49378-01641 ($750)
- 49378-01642 ($870)
- 1515A198 ($2000)

All above are called "OEM".
Can someone put some light on it please?

Don't forget that the Europe EVO X is much more expensive than the USDM one...

Keep in mind that we do not talk about the prices in this thread but ;) how much a new one costs in Romania?
It starts at 62 000 USD for GSR in PL.

possibly due to the Euro models coming in the FQ models... Different power levels warrant different TC's

FQ models only exist in the UK, so it does not tell the story, IMHO.

But, still, I am looking for someone who can answer my question...
I wish I had not said anything about the weakness of USDM t/cs, damn!

i would guess the first two maybe for differentiation between model years. the last one i have no idea.

Why are you even looking for stock turbocharges... you already have one in your car.

He implied that his USDM one broke. It'd probably be a lot less expensive to buy a used one, even with shipping.

Yeah you find them for $250 here add $50 for shipping probably.

I just said that my proved to be "weaker" in terms of power, nothing else!
I feel very sorry for my self that I haven't checked what model I have when the t/c was out of the car but I'd not expect it to be less capable than the others.

And I in my first post - I am looking for a knowledge rather than a t/c itself.
I am trying to find why the price is so different for a/m models.

Here is what I found today in one rally shop:
"Genuine Mitsubishi Evo 10 Grp N Turbo. Inconel Homologated for International use.MHI 49378-01642 - The only LEGAL Evo 10 Turbo".

If you had said that some OEM turbos are less powerful or more powerful than others then it would have been clear. Weak had more than one possible meaning when discussing a turbo.

And this is the reason it's so Expensive. The turbocharger is a different design than the stocker unit. I don't know which model was on the first Evo X RS models (EU) but they were awful in regards of reliability.

There have been 4 revisions to the inconel/titanium turbochargers that are homologated for group N use and I know for a fact that they're way more expensive than the normal stock TC.


Power wise: they produce less peak power but spool faster as the turbo is meant to use with a 33mm restrictor (group N) and as a result - has no use of power capabilities at 7000 rpm because there isn't any through a 33mm restrictor.

All the rest you've written seem to best right.

the regular TC is better for a rally and ALS then a titanium. The Titanium spools faster but they cant take the abuse of the ALS. The regular TC is better with ALS , that is why the RS TC usually changed back to a regular as soon as you got an ALS in your car. I cant recall but something has to do a fact it is titanium,/i can ask what was that, if you want it/

The titanium is awesome on regular base cars, since spools like 2-300 rpm faster then a basic. I do not think they actually produce more top power and such.
