AKUMA EVO X: AKUMA's new 2.2L and more
I wanted to start this thread to update what we are doing with the shop Evo X. I had a thread up a while ago, but there are so many changes, I though it would make sense to start over.
Basically I had the opportunity to develop our new stroker motor with our machinist and throw it in the EVO X. Shep really hooked us up with a trans overhaul and a new final drive as well. Headgames is doing the head, and I will get it tuned. Here are the specs of the new build: AKUMA 2.2L Shortblock -JE Asymmetrical pistons Coated with upgraded pins**Retains Oil Squirters** -Manley Rods- Turbo Tuff Pro I Beam -Manley Billet Crank-94mm 33lbs -ACL bearings -Cosworth thrust Bearings -Akuma Spec ARP Headstuds---See pics below, they are HUGE! -Mainline honed/Cyl Torque Plate Honed/Blueprinted/Balanced -Head work by HEADGAMES: -Valve job -Ferrera valves(inconnel Ex) -Combustion chamber shaping -Cosworth DUAL Spring and Ti retainer set -KELFORD C Cams*** -Cosworth Head Gasket -Head gasket matched to Akuma Spec Head studs These are most of the other mods on the car... :) -FP Black Ball Bearing Turbo -Fullrace Header-coated -TBE: Tomei Ti cat Back and test pipe -Akuma I/C Pipe kit with ETS 4" core -KW Competition 2 way coilovers-corner balanced and aligned@ Akuma -Aquamist Meth Injection -Cusco chassis bracing -Whiteline Sway-Re -Recaro Profi seat and Personal Wheel -Akuma Surge Tank + Bosch 044 + FIC 1100cc +Cosy rail and FPR -Akuma Firewall -Carbonetic twin Carbon Clutch I will have it assembled next week and on the dyno the middle of the following week, but here are some pics to start http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...s/IMG_1004.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...s/IMG_1003.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...s/IMG_1002.jpg This is the 1/2" Headstud vs to standard ARP stud... http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...s/IMG_1006.jpghttp://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...s/IMG_1005.jpg |
cant wait to see the results!

why did you use JE pistons instead of the manley that go with that stroker kit?
|
This is not an off the shelf stroker kit. I chose the JE Asymmetrical pistons because of their design. The forging is very similar to the Cosworth piston design. The obvious difference being the asymmetric skirt. This design has a few benefits on paper, from weight savings to knock resistance. Manley has some very nice products, but the new JE design has the edge in this department.
I have the head coming back on Weds. so I should have it on the road Thursday...tuning the following week or possibly Saturday. Once I have actual data, I can then put up a much more detailed follow up post. John |
Turbo Tuff Crank+Turbo Tuff I beams+Platinum series 2618 Manley Pistons =Off the shelf Manley stroker kit. Only difference here looks appears to be the JE pistons (custom ordered?) that is that same stroker kit I am using in my current build, except I am using the Manley pistons. JE looks like Very nice stuff also, are they 2618?
Looking forward to the results. Good luck with the rest of the build. http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._2715387_n.jpg http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._6998459_n.jpg |
