I'm stumped! Help!

:helpme: I did a 3rd gear pull on the highway yesterday. Suddenly, the car lost power and would not hit boost. The car turned off on the highway. No response. When I tried to crank the car over, I got nothing. When I towed the car home, I checked several things. The car threw absolutely no codes whatsoever. I did a compression check, results were perfect as they should be. I checked to see if the camshaft was moving when we cranked it (making sure timing chain was still intact) and it was. I can definitely hear my double pumper prime. I pulled off the intake to make sure the turbo was spinning freely and it was. I swapped the MAF sensor out and had no luck. I checked some fuses and they were all fine. The spark plugs were all consistent and looked good. I believe it has to be a sensor/short/or fuse issue. Does anyone have any input on what else to check? The 3 basic things are fuel, spark, and compression. Please post up what you think it can be. I was told it would be a crank shaft position sensor, cam angle sensor, fuel injector resistor pack etc etc. When I cranked it the following day, it actually ran for a whole 5 seconds but turned right back off.

Here is the list of my mods (extensive):

1. Stage 2 Sleeved MAP 2.0 Block with Wiseco Pistons and Manley Turbo Tuff I beam Rods
2. Ported Stage 2 head with Supertech dual valve springs, titanium retainers, and Supertech Valves
3. GSC S2 Cams
4. MAP Rev 2 ported Intake Manifold
5. MAP Short Runner Exhaust Manifold
6. MAP EF4 fully ported with anti-surge compressor housing with Turbosmart 23psi wastegate
7. AMS Front Mount Intercooler
8. Cobb Intercooler Pipes
9. Cobb SF Intake, Perrin filter, 3.5 inch Cobb Turbo Inlet Pipe
10. Forge Blow Off Valve
11. Grimmspeed 3 Port Boost Controller
12. AMS Widemouth Downpipe
13. Megan Test Pipe
14. Perrin Stainless Catback
15. AMS Fuel Rail
16. Buschur Double Pumper
17. ID 2000cc Fuel Injectors
18. SSP Oil Catch Can
19. Currently running on E85.

Your input is appreciated!

Thanks,
AJ

Might be a stupid question, but did you look at your oil pressure when it died? Or when it started back up?

AJsGenerX Jun 19, 2013 10:30 AM

Oil pressure was fine. I'm still stumped. Going to try to pull the crank position sensor today.

Dumb question but do you have power? did you check alternator? did the timing jump? just a couple of other checks..

dumb question... but how about engine ground? can you verify spark at the plugs?

Well, there are certain things that could easily be considered a stupid question.

The thing is ... alot of things may cause you to loose power....
Lets try to start a check list others may add to it

Fuel pressure regulator
Boost control
waste gate may bee loose
Turbo piping
Engine pressure check
Air sensor
ECU check
> You may have one of your electrical cables burned (short on engine electric) << this happened to me and showed same symptoms u had.

Boost Control looks good. Waste gate is tight and sealed. Turbo piping was perfectly okay. Mass Airflow sensor was swapped and and still no luck. The engine pressure check (meaning compression?) was good. The ECU Check, ECU seems to be okay. The ecu threw absolutely no codes whatsoever. It honestly seems like a short somewhere. The harness above the exhaust manifold is perfectly fine. I checked it all the way through, there are no melted wires. I am running a short runner manifold. I pulled the spark plugs, tried to crank and I can smell the fuel pour into the cylinders so I know fuel supply is good.

Gotta start with ignition...... Do you have spark? Have you tried looking at live data on a scantool to confirm communication and operation?

Travis@GSC Jun 24, 2013 01:48 PM

check all of your intercooler piping/couplers

I say an intercooler pipe probably popped loose or off.
