What's a good clutch for 600hp 500ftlb?
I think my clutch is pretty much gone. It currently has a act 6 puck sprung in it with a act streetlight flywheel. Someone suggested trying to launch the car a couple of times to try and clean the glazing off and it will fix its self. I fear that will not work so I'm getting ready to change her out. Under wot once the car hits boost the clutch pretty much slips to nothing. It also shutters really bad when the clutch first engages like it was new. The car makes around 600 hp and 500 ftlbs. So what's a good clutch for that power. I like racing of all sorts, auto x, drag, and road course. I was thinking about a twin disk like the comp clutch or exedy.

I hear good things about the quarter master 8 leg.

A twin disk won't work?

Exedy or Carbonetics twin or triple. A 6 puck is just going to be a nightmare to drive on the street and will eat your flywheel if you slip it, and kill your drivetrain if you launch.

I have run my ACT 6 puck at the track and it started to slip after 4 runs, not ideal for your power level.
That being said mine was holding 775whp and 550wtq on my last setup. I would avoid the triple, there are plenty of good twins out there to do the job. I am also planning to switch my ACT 6 puck out soon. Also, mine did "fix" itself after the track after some more driving, so yours might too. My current leaders for my decision is the Clutchmasters 850 and the quartermaster twin. Avoid the triple, not needed. Also, if you didn't do drag you could probably do an exedy twin...the exedy twin doesn't hold as much as other twins but it drives like stock or easier, just with the twin noises. |
Thanks murlo I'm gonna give the competition clutch twin disk a try. I have friends with different platforms and older evos that run them and are very happy with them. I'll let everyone know how it holds up.

Why not try the Competition Clutches? I've been hearing really good things about them. I'm going to put that in my Evo X when it's needed! A nice stage 3.5 will do ;)

I have an exedy tripple. It works VERY good for daily driving manners. VERY loud clutch.
That being said if Comps twins weren't on back order before Buschur shoot out I would have one. Quartermasters twins I like, they are noise two but not as much as a tripple exedy. Their customer service I'm not sold on yet not bad but not the greatest either. I've seen two of their hydraulic bearings fail while at the shoot out so I'm kind of on the fence on those things. |
Get a modified exedy twin disc. Itll hold up to 700lbs tq on an evo 8/9 I assume it will as well on an evo x.
Contact evan at exedy and he will give you much more info. |
Well the comp clutch twin is on back order until march so I'm going to get the cm 850 most likely. Anyone hear anything about the fx700?
