What's up with the auxillary gauge kit?

In the previous evo's I was under the impression that the auxillary gauges they offered (turbo, oil pressure, etc.) were completely useless cause they were so far out of view. Now, they seem to offer the auxillary gauge kit in place of the stock radio, and then you have to put in your own radio. What's up with that? Why can't you get the nav and then also be able to have the stock auxillary kit. A little bit ago I came upon this picture that is at a mitsubishi booth in a Japan autoshow. There is the auxillary gauge kit installed in the dash, but then there is the one on the pillar closest to the driver. Anyone heard any details about this option or is this just something offered in Japan? And for the few in the U.S. that can read Japanese I put up the options sheet...
