I have also recently used the Dr. Colorchip stuff. I would highly recommend it. It worked great.

Haven't ordered the Dr. yet but after washing my car this weekend it looks like I will need 2 bottles. So depressing that the paint is that horrible. Going to order mud flaps and probably fix as many chips as I can and clear bra the entire car.

well i was hopeing not to see a thread like this and have this issue all over again. i use to have a 02 lancer es and withing 20K mitsu repainted my hood cause it was bad. last summer i picked up a tarmac black ralliart (new) and just did my first had wash since winter and discovered about 15 chips in the hood nowhere else just the hood so i took it to my mitsu today and the guy told me to turn it into my insurance.....needless to say i left more pissed off than when i went in. ill go snap some pics here shortly cause some of mine are fairly large

^Yeah it seems the plastic parts are able to absorb the impact better letting the paint deflect instead of chip off. My hood is the only place that has chips so far as well.

No, all new cars use this type of paint. It's a problem with all new cars to my knowledge. If you get clear-bra, sealant, wax... it lessens the chance of chips. Take precautions with some mudflaps too.

My friends 2010 BMW looks like it's been through a few rallys

neither sealant nor wax are going to lessen the chance of chips.

if you seriously want to avoid chips and all the headaches, you should install clear bra or any of the many clear plastic overlay products. This WILL substantially reduce the risk of chips.

i had it put on within 2 days of taking delivery of the my 2010 X and i am VERY happy that i did.

I was on i-95 a week or two after having it installed and a chunk of frozen ice/gravel/wood flew off the back of a truck and BANG!!! it nailed my hood then hit the windshield. the impact was hard enough to leave a small chip/scratch in the windshield and you could clearly see where it hit the clear bra on the hood. BUT, paint was fine, no scratches or chips. i hate to think what the hood would have looked like otherwise, probably like a shotgun blast.

DO THE CLEAR BRA!

I've got retarded yellow spots on the edge of side skirts near the tires. Really annoying, can't see them unless you're up close though.

I got my first chip of many I fear at 3k miles.. I am going to be putting around 20k on it a year, so I guess I better get used to it. I touched up this chip, and I must say, it was deep. And actually looked like it pushed back some of the paint.... Anyways, its 'ok' now.......

^^Clear bra, if you don't want it to get worse. Had mine on for 1.5 years now and it's holding up great.

Or just repaint when you can't stand it anymore.

Sealant does lessen the chance of chips from small rocks/debris but obviously can not protect like clear bra.

I just got the dr. colorchip for my WW. I already had a few chips on the hood. That stuff is amazing. The chips are gone and i can't even see where they were anymore. Definitely recommend and much better than those touch-up pens.

I ordered a set of Rally Armor to help protect against the "side damage." This has been a huge problem with the new STIs. Hopefully the RA flaps help prevent this.

This was a major problem on my 08 STi so I bought the rally armor flaps for the front. It definitely cut down on the chipping, but my GSR will definitely be getting some clearbra back there as well.

I was getting tinted last weekend and the guy said he's done many Evo clear bra jobs. I asked for a price and he throw almost $700 at me. Wow...
