Understanding ASC: What it does and reported problems & codes (thread merge)
Whaaaat??? Are you positive its tranny / Tcase fluid?? What speeds were you at when it failed?? Its very unlikely to damage tcase or tranny once the car is up and running past 60mph.. you sure it didnt window the block?? Im sorry to hear about what happened to the car.. You were one of the few really working on getting the ASC issue resolved.. I cant imagine what failed on an EVO w/ ~320whp...

I was next to a VR-4, actually about to do a couple of warm-up pulls. I'm a master technician (ASE Master +L1, many other certs). I haven't got around to seeing if the tcase shares fluid with the gearbox, or if they are independent of one another. Either way, it was certainly gear oil, no doubt about that. I suspect something in the area of the tcase tail-housing, possibly output shaft seal. I will update on this later. The car remained driveable, although I let it cool first and only moved at 35mph, whining all the way (no other options were available) home. Speed at 'failure' was about 78mph WOT. Engine is fine, but is just coming up due on its first ever oil change.

You probably shouldn't have posted that though because you will now be flooded with all kinds of random tech questions PM'd.
From what I've learned, no. I mean, somewhere there is someone who's done it, but I'm sure I'm in the first 10-15 to experience a massive failure/fluid loss on the X, excluding other systems. I'd attribute the whine to low fluid, but as to the degree of internal damage, I don't know yet. I can say that the trans became more difficult to shift (notchy, like a cold 3000GT VR-4). That's what made me question whether the fluids are shared.
Ok lets get this right.. Turbos are always hot unless the car is turned off.. That is called a FACT.. Turbos ALWAYS GLOW is not a fact.. If you want me to dyno a car in the dark for you to show you they do not ALWAYS glow red i can do that the next time i am on the dyno..
Hard driving as lallen3 has already explained the conditions and use of the car already would lead to a glowing turbo.
Hard pulls to 80mph in boost would exhibit this condition.
When I feel compelled to do so, I light cigarettes off of the exhaust manifold and turbine housing.

Has there been any information that has been obtained on why the ASC Light is coming on?? I have a customer of ours who is getting the Zchip but wants it custom tuned but i am leary as i dont want to be responsible for the common ASC light that keeps coming on.. Should i just install it for them as PnP and leave off the MBC just to be safe?? lmk
