I wanted mine without the stencil but the vendor I bought it from only had a stenciled one. Oh well.

My AGP is flaking worse than yours, and I installed it less than a week ago. Mine looks pretty horrible the way it is right now.

How about using clear coat before it starts flaking, as a preventative measure? My friend did this on his, and it held up.

What about heavy duty paint, like wheel paint instead? But you have to get a perfect stencil to match up so it looks nice.

Clear coat will act as an insulator which will affect heat transfer. You bought the bigger intercooler to provide better cooling than the stock unit. Adding clear coat defeats the purpose.

I painted mine with engine paint and carefully prepped the surface with light sanding and alcohol. The paint "flaking off" is not really flaking, it is being chipped by all the debris on the road. It won't flake off from regular washing. So I have increased my following distance to vehicles on the road. Since then, my stencil is in pretty good shape considering. It hasn't taken nearly the damage as the first month when I was driving like everyone else in the NCR. I love DC traffic...

I taped off my AMS logo and painted it with geezevox's engine paint. I do have a few chips, but no issues with flaking.

Why not use some cheap paint and write an insightful message on it and change it every week just for ****s and giggles

Let's put it this way... I'm a huge fan of AMS and support their products (and use all of them on my X)... but the paint on this intercooler is just God-awful. The reason I say this is because...

1. I installed the FMIC about 6 months ago, and have literally taken the car out of my garage two times for maybe 200 miles?
2. I would consider myself a professional detailer, and use only the highest quality products for washing and polishing, etc. My car has seen nothing but Zaino hand washes, and a light hose spraying of the IC at worst.

... and my paint is starting to look awful. I think it has more to do with heating and cooling cycles more than debris as I've ONLY driven the car on backroads.

I will be repainting mine and will be using a better paint and will prep the surface with 400 grit wet sandpaper. It would be nice if AMS could supply a stencil as they are all cast tank'd now. AMS? Thoughts?

Use aircraft stripper to take off the paint, stenciled intercoolers are ricer anyhow. If you really wanna keep it just use the aircraft stripper then call ams they will ship you a stenciel for like 10 bucks then respray your self.

We do offer a Stencil for the AMS Logo on the FMIC and have for quite some time now. If you PM me your email I can send the PDF file right away for the stencil.
