LOL, seems like lotta of old-timers here... humm...
Well, my first car was 07 Hyundai Elantra, then I bought 09 RA sportback for a little change (lol). Loved the RA for both performance and practical aspects for daily use! Unfortunately made some mistake (lol) i am not a family man... yet, do not need a hatchback (I was thinking way too much). Now, I am actually in an EVO =) Absolutely love SST!
IMO, if ppl could get an X in this economy, I doubt they would care too much about the $$$ diff between MR and SST as well as the $$$ cost for SST maintanance... Except for those manual hardcores

There are car guys and then there are folks who want to look like car guys. This thread blatantly illustrates who's whom, regardless of transmission choice.

It's nice to see people are gradually liking the SST. I remember when I registered on EVOM I guess last year, a huge percentage of people wer bashing the SST without even testing it.

I do like my SST, and its actually my first evo. But I can see why hardcore racers are still in love with 5MT

Now only if we can drive it with no fear..

It'll happen someday. Sort of like the "fear" of knowing that your PC will be junk in three years or less, etc. Someday the twin clutch will be the second option, next to CVT for the Missus.

LOL. You're showing your age. When I was worrying about the PC issue, the damn things were $2000. NOT including kb, mon, mouse or printer. My first P3 at CompUSA, no-name store brand, with 128MB of RAM was $1999, on sale. But yeah, the number difference becomes something you notice. thank god PC's are a lot cheaper now, or I'd be using my cell phone like I did back then, 2000 min a month easily.

I'm 37. Not as old as you, but probably older than you thought. I don't care what the cost of replacement of an SST will be in 10 years, I care what it will be in < one year when I would be pushing it to it's limit on an aftermarket turbo and E85. That isn't fear, it's financially choosing a much cheaper to repair/replace transmission who's limits might well be tested.

this. again, i did love the SST when i drove one and i think that it is one hell of a transmission. I also know damn well that my next car will probably be with a similar transmission. at the end of the day, i went with the GSR 5 spd not because the SST is bad but because i still think that it is a bit too new for my taste. Its not like we are talking about a $500 part here, if the SST goes bye bye on me, it means a good amount of money and probably a long downtime while waiting for new parts.

I just started reading this thread....LOL.... I thought about that too when I got my MR...... as meticulous I am (her seeing how I take care of it and parking far away from peeps) about my MR X, she is scared of driving it for fear of doing any damage, so she really does'nt drive it much and sticks to her Ridgline....Ha Ha Ha

I have only owned cars with manual transmissions since 1993. Among 19 different cars owned- an ITR, GTI, B5 S4, two STIs, an IX RS, S2000 CR and now an Evo X SE, I am never looking back.

The 5 speed in the Evo sucks(without Buschur or Shep tinkering with it) and there was no way I was going back to one in the X.

The TC-SST has exceeded my expectations on all accounts. It really is brilliant! The rev-matching on downshifts, auto-selecting first gear at stops in manual mode, and just the ability to dawdle around town in auto is simply awesome. I went ahead with my purchase knowing that I was not going to be modifying beyond a catback, and a tune someday.

There is Hope

I too was pretty bummed when I found out that the SST couldn't handle increased torque and power but now there's hope. I saw this link right from this forum: http://www.sspperformance.com/produc...Path=33_39_110 .
Clutch package for $1,400 that can handle 600hp and whole transmission package for $4K. Not great but much better than $10K!
BTW, had to buy this car so my wife can drive it. Thank god she hasn't yet but just in case.

Flashing back now to this thread.... Feb 5 my wife slid my Evo off the driveway into the woods (long long gravel driveway on a moderately steep hill). The things that I said to her cannot be repeated again, not verbally and not written on this website. besides profanity rules, I don't want to give any prosecutor the idea I'm harboring the idea of murdering my wife

I am LOLing at the "hardcore" 5MT die hards.
We all have our likes and dislikes.
I went from a drifting RWD twin turbo setup to the MR Touring.
Its got its plus and minus points but I absolutely love the SST and I am definitely not scared to drive it like I stole it. One day Carbonetics will put out a solid carbon clutch for the MR and then its game over.
