That sucks bro, but glad to hear you are ok. I would have to vote for totaled. I wouldn't worry about it driving the same. If a good body shop handles things, it should be as good as new, but the issue would be it would be a salvage title and no one would ever want to buy that thing. If given the option to repair or total, mark it totaled and get a new one in my opinion.

As for the new car (if it is indeed totaled and get a new one), after driving an 06 IX GSR, and now a 11 X GSR, I would say go with the 11 MR if its a DD. If its a toy or weekend car, either would work. Just my thoughts, best of luck to you man!

Same thing with me! My right shin was killing me for months after my accident and that stupid airbag deployed.

I've heard it is about $2k per airbag to replace them with new. That really adds up in situations like this.

That place is accident central. I just left there for my next assignment.

Still though, hope USAA totals it for your sake. Looks like some heavy frame damage, but I'd really have to see it in person.

I took some new shots of it today and uploaded them to the same album.

also the passenger seat airbag deployed so will I have to order a whole new seat or can they just replace the seat back or something like that? I'm thinking the whole seat should be replaced but the dealership said just the seat back. can anyone clarify for me?

I worked as an insurance adjuster for 2 years before I moved on so I have some actual experience estimated car damage.

My vote:

Fixable.

You have a $30k vehicle with low mileage. In order for it to be totaled, you would need to have aprox. $22,500 (75% of the value) worth of damage.

Its hard to tell just by looking at the pics but I'd estimate you have about $12-13k in damage. I'd say USAA will fix it.

Frame damage is a 4 letter word in the automotive community, but it does not necessarily need to be. The fact is at least 70% of the vehicles I dealt with had some sort of frame damage. Even in minor accidents it is not hard to tweak the frame. The frame is made to buckle/sway to absorb impact damage.

Frame damage is repairable.

In the event of major frame damage, new frame rails can be cut (sectioned) and then welded into the existing frame rails. The frame is then pulled back to factory specs.

It happens every day. Y'all may not like it, but a bent or damaged frame does not mean a vehicle is totaled.

Just to give you an idea on what almost $15k worth of damage looks like.
At least that's what the body shop said and they are joined up with USAA.
It's an 03' so it was totaled.

well I just spoke with the body shop estimator and he said the Grand Total is ... you ready?
$24K. Now i'm just waiting on USAA to make their final decision and cut the check! So I assume it's now safe to start searching for a 2011 EVO.

If it's not totalled, don't count on suddenly having extra cash unless you are sue happy. I don't understand where that notion comes from. Insurance will either pay the body shop directly, or cut you a check.

If they cut you a check, chances are that it won't be enough to cover repair costs after they take everything apart, and you will need to have the adjustor come back and write up a new estimate based on the unseen damages.

Considering how messed up the front looks, and how all the airbags deployed, I'd guess it's totaled. I really hope it's totaled because it will never drive the same if it's fixed.

24k def totaled. Why not go for a 2010 and save some cash? Use the rest for mods.

They told me $2500 per airbag. I had three deploy as a passenger was with me, then $2500 cause they need to replace the dash due to the passenger airbag. $10,000 and they didnt even get to the outside of the car yet. The adjuster took a look inside the car, saw three airbags and said "total it"

Did not even look at the outside of the car once. I was knida glad cause they are never the same after an accident lik that.

what "notion" exactly are you talking about? I never once mentioned that i'd have "Extra Cash". The insurance is going to cut me a check to pay off my loan. That's what I meant by that statement. At this point, I would like to pay off my loan so that I can purchase a new car.

Fact i have a full EVo X GSR interior in my basement LOL
all the parts had 4 month's life and 3000 mile life period in the car. Since then they are in my basement. Everything looks like brand new. Just ask the guys who brought my parts /seats ? and those are the most used parts./ he also from Texas /
