Chain Stretch Pics

Just a couple of pics of my stretched timing chain. Bone stock 2008 EVO X with 50k miles. Tensioner extended fully and chain loose. I wonder how common this will be with these engines.

i've seen quite a few evos and regular lancer with the 4b11 motor with the stretch chain.

not familiar with this at all. Can the car be driven like that?

It drove fine. When I parked it without the e-brake on the car rolled back in gear and it skipped a tooth. Then it wouldn't run at all.

So whats the fix and how much? I imagine the chain itself is fairly cheap but the labor to fix might be a lot.

went to a mitsu dealership for my SYSTEM SERVICE LIGHT last week... they checked it and i have a stretched timing chain. my car has 34k miles and im still waiting if the warranty will cover it!

what are the symptoms of stretched chain?

wouldn't this be covered under power terrain?

usually a light will come on and tell you, but with a stretch chain the car with idle really rough or to the point where the car would not start. Yes the stretch chain will be cover under warranty unless you've done modification to the car.

^ its will all X's since they all use a timing chain...

and i would also like to see what the dealer will charge for this fix if you are not under warranty

i would say around $600 in labor.

you'll have to pull the valve cover , oil pan the the front timing cover off.

pretty much all the mitsubishi with the 4b1 motor, i've seen a few on the evos as well as the regular lancer.

They should cover it. Mine went at 32k and it was covered. I only had an cat back exhaust though.

crazy, not very high mileage for a CHAIN to stretch.
