I'm running amsoil and shifts fine for me in the cold....No noticeable difference for me....When it's time to change the amsoil I might try the redline tho just to compare

mine too! but i just start mine in the morning and let it idle to operating temps and then i have no issue.

Same problem. MT-85 wasn't much help, Redline suggested MTL. MTL is a hell of an improvement, although its not 100%.

So the majority of what I hear is redline mtl and mt-85 called the cocktail! Looks like 3qt mtl 2mt 85! Motul is saying too thick. Even the motul 90 is a no go! No one has said anything about dealer fluid so I guess that's out!

I know this thread is for Xs, but in my recent clutch install I went with Amsoil and hate it on cold weather. Previously I had Redline and had no problems in cold weather. Will be changing back soon.

whew, i always wondered about this, so it is the cold weather which is what i figured cause after mine gets warmed up, it goes away, man, thought it was somethn with mine, relieved its just normal when its cold

Looks like running the cocktail is better gonna order some this week. Any other suggestions or comments or anyone elses experience with this issue please chime in!

Yes, I was told by my dealer that the warranty is void on the trans once you do this.

What I don't get is some days the car can be notchy or even grind a little and other days like this morning it is perfect. I already have it made up when it's time for a fluid change I will look into some better fluid.

Everyone cries Magnusson-Moss and in most cases I'd say it's hopes and dreams, but in the way your post was stated, it fits very well into the "dealership is full of crap" statements.

As long as the fluid you choose to use meets or exceeds the specifications of the factory fluid you will *not* void your warranty.

However, if you were to experience a failure of your transmission and it is found to be directly caused by insufficient lubrication, or underfill/overfill service, etc, than yes. Your warranty claim might be denied.

If your vehicle was filled with OE fluids and the service was done by the dealer not an independent shop or yourself and your transmission failed and it was found to be from improper lubrication of internal parts, then it would be the dealership coughing up the repair costs. (or claiming abuse, driving during an eclipse, solarflare, karma running over dogma, whatever)

My son has a 2011 Evo X GSR that has the Redline cocktail in it along with a Torque Solutions short shifter and AMS bushing kit. The car has always been tough to drive when first starting out, even in warm weather. The short shifter helped gear engagement somewhat.

However, it has gotten pretty cold here in Minnesota and when the car sits overnight, he can barely engage first gear even after letting the car warm up. Once underway, the transmission still is very balky and barely will engage second or third gear until the car has warmed up completely. I would definitely say not to use the Redline cocktail in the winter based on the experience my son has had with his Evo.

He is looking into a lighter weight oil just for the winter and then use the Redline cocktail for the warmer months. Before I got my Evo X, I had a built 2007 Honda Civic Si. Hondas are notorious for horrible shifting when cold. I ran Amsoil in it and it really helped out a lot. Car shifted much more smoothly, even when cold. We might just go back to Amsoil.

Who came up with the "Redline cocktail" for Evos? Does it have any backing from an Evo transmission specialist?

I always ran BG in my VIII, but I think it best to run OEM in the X and just let it warm a little longer in really cold weather startup after work, etc. I don't like the idea of mixing fluids if I don't know where the idea came from.
