I love the exhaust. It sounds great, but it is loud. I had the exhaust put on right before I got the car tuned. My wife rode in the back seat last week and was amazed at how loud it sounds in the back. She couldn't hear my brother and I talking in the front seat. She had to lean up to hear the conversation. I; of course, never ride back there, but she is worried about the kids riding back there.

I guess sound is relative... What some think is not bad could be terrible to someone else. Sometimes its hard to hold a phone conversation on the bluetooth. Its time to try something to quiet it down.

When I had a UR dual catback, It was so loud. It sounded good when showing up at car shows but other than that i hated it. It rattled my interior and I finally got tired and swapped my exhaust for the T1R. I tried a Depost HFC but it did little to quite it down.

Well don't know if it's an option for you but have you considered the stock muffler? I have an AMS Widmouth / 3'' Test Pipe / 3'' Mid Pipe/Mated to a RRE Gutted Stock Muffler. It is seriously the quietest car I have had in a long time. It's so quiet at times I want to buy a loud catback... The only time it gets a little loud is when I really get on it. No drone, no excessive noise, yet still performs well.

Please say more. Do you have a resonator before the rear axle? And is this the Works-style, gutted OE muffler with flapper that opens at WOT?

No other resonator besides the stock muffler. I replaced the stock mid pipe with a 3 inch mid pipe. You are correct, It's very similar to the Works Muffler. Any local muffler shop can do it for cheap. They just have to open it up, make some cuts, remove the flapper and left over pieces of pipe and reseal.

I'm in the same boat. My TurboXS exhaust and AMS hi-flow is just a bit too loud for me eventhough I imagine my setup is mild compared to some. I was going to have a shop weld in a simple bottle style resonator to quiet it down a bit.

Could a magnaflow muffler be added into the testpipe on the X? I did it on my IX, but not sure if the X has enough room.

The UR resonated test pipe (mini muffler) is quieter than a 100 cel HFC. BTW when I switched it out I only gained 2 hp, so the Milspec 100 cell HFC flows great. My current setup is an AMS DP, UR resonated TP (mini muffler), Vibrant Ultra Quiet mini muffler, Magnaflow CBE. Its too quiet!...quiet as stock!!! Im going to switch out the resonated TP for a non-resonated one.

I've gotten great results with the Vibrant mini muffler. I originally installed it to kill highway drone and it did just that! It fits perfectly just before the rear differential.

The Magnaflow muffler is more quieter than the ETS muffler so I think a resonated TP (mini muffler) + Vibrant mini muffler would be perfect for your system...since its too quiet for the Magnaflow, it should sound nice with the ETS.

Did you use the round or oval Vibrant resonator?

I also heard that all ETS exhausts are loud, including the quiet versions. I first modd was the HKS hi-power cat back and it was super loud, so loud than when I added my ETS test pipe the car didnt get any louder. Like everyone said, your options are:
1) Different cat back
2) Resonated test pipe
3) The mini muffler thing

I know what you mean when you said people have to lean forward on the back seat. I hate my cat back lol

My UR mini muffler and magnaflow CBE bolted right up to the stock DP on the X. Easy install if you can get the damn bolts off without rounding them out....

You had that much trouble with the hardware? Mine zipped right off with a 3/8" ratchet by hand. The only one that concerned me were the 4 bolts on the cat midpipe, usually they are so heat cycled you snap them in half.

Is the ETS the only one that uses a vband style clamp from the testpipe to the muffler section?

Hey I had a similar set up on my EVO and I really loved the sound at first but it eventually got too load at highway speeds. I had the ETS V2 set up and eventually ordered the High Flow pipe from ETS to make the car a little more quite but I never got around to installing it. I still have the High Flow pipe if your interested in picking up a brand new part for about half off!
