If I was closer than 8000 miles away from my car I'd go tear my seat apart now and look for you guys.
It can't be hard, even if you have to unbolt it from the vehicle.
I've taken many a seat out in my day doing car stereo stuff. I've even fixed a broken spring on a seat. Taking the foam and upholstery off of a metal frame is easy.
Everyone needs to go to sites like www.lifehacker.com more

There are many others who would like to widen the seats if possible. Like I said, the seats being tight (for some) has been the topic of discussion many times in the past. Some people even choose not to get an Evo X cause of the seats. I almost went with the sti because of the Evo seats amongst a couple of other reasons.
I just figured if there was something fairly easy that people could do to widen them a little there would be a "how to" thread or something about it. Instead all thats really said is "loose weight". Oh well.

So some one got the seats widened and it's very "easy". You just do it. Did I miss something, seems that the way to do this is a secret or drive to Dallas for instructions.

So I looked under the seat and couldn't see any adjustable brackets...There are the 3 star-head bolts that connect the rails together, but if I loosen those there is no way to widen the bolsters because the rail is a fixed width. I'm sure I missed something if it's that easy...any advice on which bolt to look at?

Widening Evo X Recaro
Ok Supraboy1, I checked and read all of this crap from you, No Offense....If there was a way to widen the seats, why the secret? Instead you give the same ole jibberish that comes with these kinda sites. People are looking for help when they come to these sites, not for someone to tell them something that is not true, just to continue a thread. There is NO WAY to widen the Recaros that come stock in the MR's, without modifying them. The only hardware under the seat is the rail bolts. All of the supports are welded together. STOP THE B.S., put up the instructions and make me a liar........or don't answer and I will assume what my initial thoughts are about your ability to widen the seat.

Again, more jibberish....If it only took 10 minutes as stated before, it should be a few steps involved, not a Steven Spielberg production. In the time it took for you to write the last reply, you could of been a hero and helped the community on how to adjust their seats.
So again, my theory stands....the seat is not mechanically adjustable without simply bending the lower seat Bolsters outward. Is this your awsome plan that is top secret? lol!

I'm going to bump an old thread instead of making a new one. Did anyone end up modifying the seats?
I'm 5'11" 188 with a 31 inch waist and am also encountering the awkward position of having to sit too close to reach the wheel, causing my left leg to hang uncomfortably over the left bolster.
Strangely, this is my second X (previously owned a 2008 GSR, now an MR-T) and it never bothered me 6 years ago but being in my mid-30s now, I'm far more aware of discomfort when I'm driving.

So I had my seats taken apart at an upholstery shop. While they were apart, I pulled the foam off the side bolsters. It simply slips over a steel bar. I grabbed a hammer and banged the steel bar out a bit. They are much more comfortable now.
