evo is loud on the freeway. RPM is ~4k @ 80mph which is definitely on the loud side. you'll miss your SUV on long hauls. i used to have an A4 before the evo x and i missed the quietness of it.

I was in the same shoes you are in. I had a jeep grand cherokee and got rid of it for my X. Best thing i ever did. And my wife and daughter love it.

Expensive car tbh, at Lear the MR is. I love my Evo but I quickly figured out this isn't the kind of car you'll want to drive everyday.
I can't help with the noise. However, if you think the ride is stiff for long term daily drive, you can use a softer spring just like the STI one is good.

Get the evo. But I think you're avoiding the real boss. Your wife.

When i got my Evo, i kept my old car, and its the best decision i have made. I don't have to put unnecessary miles on the Evo for small errands, i don't have to worry about lack of storage space, i use it on long distance drives, pretty much all the short comings of the Evo goes away.

and you pay higher insurance and double license plate for running two cars.
In this case I will run EVO for short distance, and run STI for long distance.

if your a family man then you need 2 cars to keep everyone in the family happy, Evo for yourself and maybe even your wife and the other car to take kids around or family trip. WHY because Evo is a raw performance animal not a long distance cruiser.

I ended up trading the jeep.I miss the quietness and the soft ride but I love the power (don't we all do). I think the seats are comfortable and I already made my first road trip by the car and I loved it Chicago-D.C.- Chicago.
I am thinking about changing the springs or installing coilovers.

well, congrats! when i made the first trip in my evo (3.5 hrs one way), i quickly realized how much road noise is an issue at highway speeds. hopefully different tires will help some once the advans wear out. but i gotta admit, its fun to drive factor is what gets you.
