Smile Coasting to a stop. Neutral or in gear?

Just wanted to know what most of you guys do when coasting and coming to a stop?

1. Do you guys stay in gear until stop then go to neutral (slowly let the RPM come down) or,

2. Neutral right away when you know you are coming to a stop? (Dropping the RPM down right away.)

What is there difference and any cause of doing either one of them?

Shift Match???

I usually downshift to down to third and then put in neutral after that. This is technically a bad habit and I think illegal in many states? but I don't find it worth it to downshift to 2nd.

Depends how I feel, really...

Sometimes I go with #1 & #2

Would like to know if there is really some sort of damage occurring by just staying in gear until coming to a stop. Really doubt it on the GSR.

I like hearing my exhaust while leaving it in gear when coming to a stop.

I always just leave it in gear until I start to go pretty slow then take it out of gear. PS who cares about the gas savings of this or not.. I mean really..

Neutral unless I have some reason to think I'll need to get back on the gas abruptly.

Idle does though. Some people get it backwards.

Coasting in neutral uses more fuel (engine is using fuel to idle)
While in gear and engine braking, the wheels turn the engine, using less fuel.

Is has been this way forever.

Back to the OP, I always leave in gear and downshift accordingly until 2nd gear, then neutral as I stop.

On numerous occasions I have had to hit the gas instantly while coasting to a stop due to some fool behind me not paying attention and almost rear ending me.
