Hi guys. My friend is thinking about buying a 08 evo x gsr with about 112k miles on the car. The car does have some aftermarket stuff like hks cat back, turbo piping, hks bov, and mitsumoto fmic, they may be more but that's just off the top of my head. My question for you guys is there anything in particular that she should look for to c what type of shape the car is in so she doesn't buy just to blow up a week later. And is there any common issues to look out for that can be a safety hazard. Any help would be great and thank you for taking your time to help her get some insite on them.

 

pre purchase inspection by a reputable shop is your best bet. If they refuse there's your sign

 

That^ and while youre at it make sure you ask the tech to take a really close look at the tranny and gear box. Piping I wouldn't really worry about, but you definitely don't want to buy an EVO with a F**cked up transmission. (Its a big reason why people sell their evos, because they know their tranny/gearbox is ****/going to ****)

 

Okay cool thank you guys. Is there anything the shop might not check that we should check. I love evos and do know stuff about them. But I don't own 1 so u guys will know way more than me. Plus I don't know a whole lot if much at all about the 4b11t or what ever the evo x motor is. I mainly know about the 4g63t's

 

Honestly whatever you would check for the 4g63 you would check for in the X's. Im sure the inspection would cover transmission/drivetrain, all pumps and belts, hopefully see if the ECU has been flashed before. but besides that I guess you could check for cosmetic wear??
