Planning to Buy an Evo X. Need Advice!

Hey guys. I'm new here and i planning to buy an Evo X sometime next year. i need some advice, i'm having a dilemma of finding a 2014. Is it just me or is it really hard to find ? i don't want a 2015 unless i have too, because obviously the seats lol. I mean i can eventually buy aftermarket ones but i don't want to do that. I rather have the recaros and use the cash on mods. i wouldn't mind a 2013/2012 but it has to be low miles. I Also wanted to ask what would be the best way to go about purchasing the vehicle ? And how much should i be spending on this car ? i most definitely do not want to over pay. ill add a link down below on the one i want. i also want to get the car where i will be able to be financial stable. i want to save up a few grand to put down so i can have an afford car payment. this will be my first car that i will be financing on so i want to be financially good. Has anyone here finance the car straight up? how was were your payments? and is there a certain about of money do you need to make to afford this car? or its pretty affordable if your making like 40k a year. let me know, it would be very much appreciate it.

You need to be extra careful with Silverline. They have a reputation of restoring salvaged cars. They may be fine now, but just make sure to have the car thoroughly inspected before buying.

Getting a 2015 and buying seats (oem recaros) off of ebay or facebook is a real option too.

MIGS647. I notice your profile it say you have a final edition, did you swap out your seats? or you didn't mind them? and what does the final edition come with ? just the trim? and a few more hp?

thanks,

Yah, I'm in Beaverton.

I'm still rocking the factory final edition seats. The bolsters are not as bad as I thought they would be. They are congruent to the VIII and IX Recaro bolsters imo. I'll swap them out before I start tracking again, but right now, they are quite comfortable, aren't horrible on the eyes and still have some "ok" support.

The sodium filled valves, trim, the red stitching, the final edition logo on the instrument cluster, the FE badge on the shift console, the tune, the bilsteins / eibachs, two piece rotors. I got Diamond White since there wasn't ever a diamond white evo.

It seems the sodium filled valves are actually worth something here as English Racing seems to be getting more power out of the FEs after tuning than the other cars.

I think the FE is worth it. You're getting a warranty, a semi-special evo, and a piece of history. Just don't pay MSRP or higher for one and you'll be sitting good.

IMO for what you're looking for you're betting off getting a new Evo. Cars with low mileage and stock cost almost as much as a brand new one. You get a better loan rate on a new one and its got a warranty. Like migs said abut the FE, I have one as well. The seats are actually quite comfortable and I agree with the racing sentiment. I'm 6'7 and the seats give me no issues. There is something to be said about the piece of mind knowing that there are no questions as to who drove the car before you or what they may or may not have broken in the process.

I was in the same boat as you about a month ago but I couldn't justify the price difference between a used 14 evo and a brand new 15 evo. the price was about 3k off and the used evo was already 10k miles. your better off with the new one and maybe down the road get some racing seats. that's what I'm planning at least. well good luck on your purchase.

Thank you very much for your guys opinion. You guys do have a point about the 14 and 15 and the price being not so much of a difference and knowing the fact of having a a brand new evo would just be the better ordeal. if you guys are telling me the seats are comfortable and there not to bad than thats something for me to reconsider. It just breaks my heart how the 15s got shafted out of the seats. that's one big reason that is holding me back to get a 15. i couldn't find any X seats on ebay either. Last night my buddy came with through with his evo 8 RS and it was just amazing and i couldn't wait to get mine. i know that the X are new and it has drive by wire. how does it drive compared to an 8/9 ? Is it still a fun and great car? Also can you get the drive by wire tuned out?

thanks,

eh the dbw isnt that bad or hardly noticeable, i had an evo 8 before and now have an X.
the seats in the FE does sway me away, thats y i have the older model with the recaros.
if the diff in price is a few grand, its better to just get the new FE. full warranty etc and u dont have to worry about what the previous own did or didnt do.
financing a new car should give better apr than pre owned.
no clue on payments as i paid out right on all my cars.
if u make 40k and have no house payments or cc payments then ur good.
if u have rent / massive bills and crap it might be a stretch as thats only about 25k take home.

If you are living at home and plans to stay there for the next three years, I know Mitsu is offering a 3 year interest free loan on well qualified buyers. With a 15%-20% ($6000-$8000) down that is. So if you are looking at a new....say FE.... depending on the trim, that will be about ~$40K. Out the door cost (considering tax and fees) - you could be sitting around ~$45K. Take that and divide by 3 years. That's about ~$1,250/mo. Then you got insurance/warranty to think about which will vary greatly on your driving records and/or age. If that seems good to you then I say you can afford to finance the car.

I'm with Migs granted its only been two days my FE seems much smoother and more refined than my 12 did. I do miss my leather recaros and sunroof but hey. Tranny shifts better, wheels look nicer, seems tighter and smoother with the eibach/blistein combo, and I got #0420 which is my long time girls bday and well ya.

Getting an FE is the logically thing to do if your going to be spending that much. All points in thread have been good valid points.
You don't need to deal with shady dealers, or used unknowns. Get the FE if your planning on keeping it/keeping it for a while.
