Hi Guys!

Which radar detector or laser jammer is the best bang for the buck?

I haven't used one since I got rid of my Valentine One but I've been intrigued by the Escort Max 360 since it combines what looks to be a great detector with internet-fed app data from your phone. Might buy one from Amazon so I can get a few weeks with it and be able to return it if it sucks.

Jammers are illegal in all 50 states, so I wouldn't run one.

I have Passport Escort Max 360 and it's pretty awesome. Had to turn the Kband sensitivity down because it would go off from proximity sensors on newer cars.

A waste of money, if you pay attention you should never need one.

If you feel the need for one, Letsgetthisdone, gave solid advice,

Yeah, I dropped my old V1 because 9/10 times it warned me it would have already been too late. Paying attention > radar/laser detectors. I still use and like Waze for the community speed trap spotting, which is free. Generally staying within 10mph of the limit, combined with paying attention on the road, I've been without a ticket for over 6 years.

Nobody should be 100% relying on a detector. I agree that's common sense.

100% not true. Mine has picked up signals from miles out. Slow down to 5 over, and cruise by a VERY well hidden cop running radar that without the detector would have gotten me for a hefty ticket. This has happened plenty of times. It's happened here in town, and on road trips.

Hell, I've had it go off, slow down, and catch up to an unmarked minivan. Cruise by at 5 over and see the laptop screen and uniformed cops inside. THen they go pull someone else over still doing 80. Def not a waste of money.

Never. Every reminder and tool you can use helps. I'm guilty of looking down and being like, "crap! I'm doing 80!". A detector could save me big $$$.
Plus, you just don't always see them. They are really good at hiding and/or mixing up their vehicles.

I guess I drive like an old lady, lol. My friends with Radar have tickets and continue to get them. Passed many cops with cars and sportbikes never have a problem. I think paying attention is the key, other cars ahead will often give away there is a situation.
Letsgethisdone, we live in a city that has many types of undercover vehicles and I agree it is getting harder to see them. Doing the commutes to Cali have areas with Air patrol and not sure that radar is working there but the patrol car ahead it would. I guess if you feel the need for one... I've gone without for 20 yrs and have 0 tickets.

I don't think any of that would qualify a detector as a "waste of money", though, nor that nobody should ever need one.
Every person and situation is different.

My Valentine1 has saved me enough times to offset the original cost. I don’t drive like a maniac everywhere I go, but on longer trips, say through the mountain passes where there is nothing, it has been great. Having said that, I don’t rely on it to save me.

Sounds like your driving 5-10 over everywhere, so of course it's unnecessary for that...

You nailed it!
I chose to have fun but in low risk places. I save it for the track or areas that allow us to compete.
