Why I'm not buying Evo X

I love the car, but I hate the hell hole Mitsubishi service. I've owned Evo 8 before and I had extremely bad service. I was lied to in one instance where they were going to replace something they screwed up and didn't. Locally (Richmond VA) there is only one 1 dealership in the 70 mile radius to me. The dealership is very old, run down, and dirty. The people that works there are like some small used car dealership. Originally there were 2 dealerships near me that I could service my car but one closed down.

A friend of mine had even worse service experience with his Evo MR north of me in Maryland area. He went to several Mitsubishi dealerships to try to get good service but they all failed him. At some point they even bent his door hinge and bent it back in place after he found out about it. He was telling me Mitsubishi dealership he took his car too originally closed down as well.

I've tried to email Mitsubishi corporate about why I am not buying another Mitsubishi product but they don't even have email contact on their website. They have great products but horrible service to support it. The local Scion dealership was 300 times better than the Mitsubishi service. Whenever I took my car in I'm always thinking to myself, what else are they going to break this time.

With Evo X being brand new from the ground up I don't feel confident that the local hell hole dealership knows how to service it correctly. I'm sure there will be recall/warranty work to be done on the first year car. The new Evo X is very sophisticated and I don't think they'll know what to do with it.

Sorry for the long rant but it’s been on my chest for a long time, now I don’t own an Evo any longer. And probably won’t be back to Mitsubishi again unless they do something dramatic about their dealerships.

Seriously, I've had good experiences, I've had bad experiences, but I don't blame the car for the behavior of the dealerships.

When I purchased my IX it was hassle-free and a very friendly environment. When I went in for service at another dealership (one closer to home) I found them incompetent, deceiving, and downright unpleasant to deal with. Some good, some bad, but the Evo's still an Evo.

...although that could be argued without a 4G63 under the hood

I guess I'm not clear enough on that I love the car, it's great but it's the dealership/service that is holding me back on purchasing another Evo. When I bought my Evo 8 I though the same thing, I'm buying the car because it's a great car and I am not going to worry about the service but it became really bad when they crew up my car.

Do you really think Mitsubishi service department know how to work on/service the high tech evo X with it's SST gearbox and S-AWC system? I bet you they’ll screw something up.

I will agree with you about AMERICAN stealerships, but lets not forget Ralliart is offred buy most of the dealerships overseas. So we cant blame the car. The great thing about the Evo, and the 4G63 is that they are very easy to work on, and will make you a mechanic in no time at all. I did however relize how bad my local stealerships really are, when i bought my Lexus.... I go to my local Lexus dealership all the time and OMG talk about an all around GREAT time, everytime, mod freindly and no BS EVER!

also, I am not sure if anyone noticed this but the powertrain warranty on the new Evo has been significantly reduced to 5 year/60000 miles. Possible reasons:

1. new engine, tranny
2. too many warranty claims on current evo
3. any other reasons you can think of

They probably think that brining car to wider audience, will bring in more people who will not mod car, since less warranty claims related directly to modding or driving the car hard

Im not buying an X becaue it looks like a regular Lancer, its heavier, and slower than an IX! Ha!

It sucks that you had to go through those horrible experience with the service department of the dealer you went through..but fact is you will run into that unfortunately. I have worked for 3 dealerships...a very high volume Toyota dealership for 4 years, and 2 GM dealerships which I work for one currently. Not all service departments are dealers are the same or equal...some you will have the best experience and some you will have the worst.

There is one Mitsu dealer here in Orlando that the local Evo owners have applaud their service work and how they are willing to help and work with Evo owners in general. My sister bought her Lancer there too and by far the treatment she got from sales to service has been nothing short of top notch. The other local ones though have mixed opinions...mostly negative. Other factors to take into consideration is sometimes your service writer will dictate how well your experience is..some service writers will go above and beyond, while others will say "you are SOL":crap: . Some service departments are better than others....depending on how well they expect the level of quality of work. Also some dealers will hire a "higher" quality technicians while others will hire anybody with a toolbox that can change oil and do brakes.

Getting in contact with Mitsu coporate is the best thing to do to help improve service among their dealerships..but the best way is through their District service and parts manager. Its the best way to get a response from Mitsu directly and it allows more of a personal interaction with you the customer.

service is a big thing......

I was really hyped about the 10 year 100k warranty til i found out that was garabage...

Oh you were very clear...my point was that not all dealerships are equal. Some are good, some not so good, some downright awful.

The ones that are awful are the ones that are woefully under-trained in how to deal with an Evo. They're great when it comes to a little Lancer or Eclipse, but have them do any sort of work on an Evo and they're totally lost. I've all but given up taking my car to the dealership for alignment issues--they still haven't gotten it right, and even admit they had bad specs at one point.

Hell, I'm surprised they knoew to use full synthetic at my last oil change.

kmcconn9 Oct 29, 2007 11:19 AM

they look way to moch like the lancer IMO....and the powerplant is not a 4g63....only time will tell with that

After buying the evo, I no longer use any sealership for service and look at all warranties as toilet paper. The service department at three of the four dealerships I'vee been to were both horrible and incompetent. One of teh problems I had I ended up just fixing myself as they were completely clueless, and at that mpoint I simply started modding. It's because of this car and DSM's that I learned how to work on engines and actually like and became pretty good at it.

As for buying the evo X, only thing holding me back is the appearance (wife hates the rearend) and money, but only at the moment.

The evo X?

Deez Nutz?

There's an evo X?

ty423 Oct 29, 2007 12:30 PM

I would also rethink about buying one if the dealership is not doing their job as they should. Especially after spending 30K+

Since Mitsu is targeting a new consumer with the Evo X (a guy who would consider a 3-series, A4 or C-class) they had better step up their game in both the sales and service areas. People considering those other vehicles have a level of expectations far beyond what most Mitsu dealerships will ever be able to deliver. We all put up with the crappy service because we love our car so much. Plus, many of us enjoy doing routine maintenance ourselves. This new customer they are targeting with the Evo X most likely will not put up with crappy service, nor will they want to do anything themselves.

Mitsu's got themselves in a predicament by attracting a new consumer. They're writing a check their dealerships can't cash.
