5:16 into the vid they say that the X turbo's bigger than the previous evo's.

I thought that the IX had a bigger turbo!

You are completely late and they are giving MISLEADING information!

The EVO X has a bigger turbine wheel (12T vs. 10.5T) but a smaller compressor wheel. So, it does have a smaller turbo since the compressor wheel is what draws the air.. AGP mentioned it seems to push about 5-6lb/min of air less than the IX.

So what size exactly is the compressor wheel? Or are you guessing/repeating secondhand information? Until someone knows for sure, these threads keeps wasting my time......

I see standard-scroll titanium 16G compressor wheel swaps with milled-out/different compressor housings in X's near future...with possibly clipped 12T turbine wheels...with that large of a turbine it's got lots of torque acting on the turbine shaft so it should still spool really fast even with a big 16G (or BIG big) compressor like the VII's & IX's...

If you are going to change the turbo, you might as well get one that will carry your power a LOT further than 30-40whp IMO.

indeed

Agreed. Big waste of money to upgrade so small. Go big or go home.

EH the X is already putting down 340 whp...with no tune...i don't need all that power (my VIII put down 272 and that's really enough for what i do with it) i would just get it to fix the high-rpm taper...

There is no way that it puts down 340whp FYI.

^Why's that?

bpeterson20_89 Jan 29, 2008 08:47 PM

Mitsu rates it at 295hp I believe

[disclaimer]That is just our best guess having not even measured it yet. Could be wrong. [/disclaimer]

I didn't mean BONE stock, i meant ~340 whp, stock turbo + bolt-ons and no tune except the leaning effect of the intake. a huge turbo would net more peak power, but i think would negatively affect the dynamics of the new car, which is seemingly suited to the quick-spooling characteristics of the smaller turbo and the instant power. i think a laggy turbo on the x would probably reveal the added weight they've desperately tried to hide with the fat power band. if any prospective x owners have huge horsepower in mind, why not just get a VIII/IX with proven power recipes? that's what i would do.
i wouldn't mind a 360-380 whp x that pools yesterday, with a tc-sst. i can't imagine needing more than that, and i can't imagine the sst can handle much more than that anyway. so, for my driving hobbies, if i could push a cool 20 psi or so at redline, that would be all i could ever need, and i think the stock x turbine mated to a tad bigger compressor, would do the trick i think, especially if it was titanium and the turbine was clipped...although it might not need clipping since it's so big to begin with...
