Picked up my Evo X yesterday morning!
I bought a Rally Red Evo X yesterday morning and I love it! It has the SSS package, and the Aero Kit.
I was about to buy a 3rd gen rx-7 with almost no miles and decided against it. I wont look back. Glad to be part of the evolution. ~ Utah |

How about I take some pics tonight. Maybe that will increase the credibility of my post. (Good Lord)
I figured I would wait until I did something to it (Tint, etc) to take pictures... but sure, Ill take some tonight. I am not mechanically inclined at all, so I have never had the desire to modify a car before... But I have a feeling that this car may pull me into it. P.S. I have driven the Evo VIII and now, of course, the X. My first impression of the X was that it did not handle as well. Refering to the pinpoint TIGHT accuracy of the VIII when you threw it from side to side. Now that I have driven the X more, here is what I think: The older ones felt tighter throwing it from side to side because they are just more raw. The new ones handle as well, it just doesnt feel like it because they are more refined and are just plain and simple technological wizards. Badass. Period. Also, the power delivery is much smoother. On the old ones the turbo seemed to be "on" or "off." Which to me seemed like it would make daily driving a little too tense. You would always be shifting right when the turbo was about to tear you apart. The new one is smooth as hell. {thumbup} |

But congrats on the X!! {thumbup} |
I am still in pursuit of a 3rd gen Rx-7. I am scared to buy one for some reason. They are tempermental and I am not mechanically inclinded. I thought I was ready this time...
The main reason I bought the Evo first is because this winter has been harsh here in Utah and I have a '07 Tacoma 4x4 and an '04 Rx-8 that are daily driven. My wife and I trade off. Every time there's a cloud in the sky we know we're f*cked because the Rx-8 doesnt do well with moisture. We decided at the last second that buying another car that wouldnt go in the snow would be a bad Idea. Not only that, when I purchase my 3rd gen Rx-7 It will be a garage queen with less than 10k miles. And I'll only put 1500 miles on it a year tops. We wanted to buy another usable car first. And the Evo is very usable. I f'in love it. When I purchase the 7 I will have two snow machines (Evo + Tacoma), and two sports cars (Rx-7 + Rx-8). I stressed like crazy for a few days before finally deciding on the Evo. I usually second guess myself after buying anything... but I am absolutely loving the X{thumbup} Pics tomorrow. I suck. |
nice, now you just need to get some pics up
|
I purchased the car for a few hundred dollars under MSRP. Its absolutely the best I could do. Ive never paid almost sticker price before.
I purchased the Rx-8 for $26.5k. Down from $33 something. I purchased the Tacoma for $26.9k. Down from $30. Not a huge discount... but very decent. lilquazyvietboi , How much are your friends looking to spend on a 3rd gen 7? Because the price tag of what I was looking at was higher than the original sticker price of the car in '94. |
im in utah also if any of you guys know someone with a deal similar to south coast please let me know.. otherwise i will be buying out of state and driving back...
im waiting on a phantom black MR with tech package. i too need a winter car.. i have a jeep commander limited for the winter and a twin turbo g35 for the sunny days... id like to get out of my jeep and get the evo plus the mr tranny would be ideal so my girl can drive it too. just a had a son so the 4 doors is perfect.. it really does seem that the new evo is my best bet for a new car. almost fait :) congrats on your purchase |
^ ditto... I need my wife to be able to drive it even though I would prefer a true manual... But in bad weather I take her CRV 4wd ( like this morning in the northeast for instance) ... And would feel guilty if she needed to go somewhere and didn't have a car
I could try to teach her to try stick again, but I value my life to greatly :) |
Where are the pics?
|
How do I post pictures?
Sorry Im a noob. |

sweet garage!
u have three! i repeat - three gas gusslers! :) lol |
Indeed. The Evo does the best and the worst.
|
Dude- Get an RX7 and have it converted to a Chevy LS1.
|
LOL , its true... You should get a civic hybrid leased.. It'll pay for itself in the gas saving ... LOL
Cool cars though. Love the red... It'll be more rare .. People seem to gravitate to white, black and greys now... |
Can anyone tell me why there is a gap in the middle of the front lip?
|
^ good question.... Aerodynamics???
|
Your car is sexy as hell!
That's the color I would choose or the Phantom Black. It would be a hard choice. I just wish the X was as raw as the VIII/IX and I'm married, 31 and have a kid. But that responsive feeling is what turned me on to evos in the first place. |
Thick and chunky with bad interior.
|
I saw an evo x that looked just like yours at a local mitsu dealership yesterday. Had the same aero kit package and all. Pretty sweet car. {thumbup}
|
congrats

Right, because it makes sense to be patriotic with the colors you choose for your JAPANESE cars

i would have jumped at the chance to get an FD with such low mileage...nice choice with the X though. The rx7 is a different beast altogether
|
Jumped at the chance to pay $32k for a 15 year old car...
I will get the FD. But a car that will hardly be touched makes more sense as a fourth car. It would make sense as a third, I guess, If it replaced the rx8... But my wife loves it. It is a fun car. And Nongan, you're thick and chunky. |
Service Engine Soon light is on already. F'ing Evo.
|
A lot of new evo x's are having the cel pop up, I wonder why?
|
Someone just asked the question: Rx-8 vs Evo X
RWD sports car vs FWD (sorta) Sedan. The Rx-8 is more fun to drive in some ways, and in other ways the evo is more fun to drive. Overall, I would say I enjoy driving the Evo more... but that just might be because its new. If the Rx-8 had a turbo, I would choose it hands down. Its more of a traditional sports car. The Evo is a sedan, you sit upright. The Rx-8 gets alot more looks than the Evo. The interior of the Rx-8 is lightyears cooler than the Evo's. I will say this: If you've driven the Evo, and you need that speed, the Rx-8 will feel slow. The Rx-8's transmission is the smoothest thing you'll ever experience. The Evo is very notchy. Nothing wrong with it... It just is what it is. The more I drive the Evo X, the more the transmission bugs me. |

I feel ya, i had a turbo II and test drove the rx8-those are very smooth-even though my mr2 turbo was faster, the rx7 was smoother better overall feel especially at 140+. but i am very interested in the evo, now that my wife is pregnant
|
CONGRATS!{thumbup}
|
I like the red. Nice choice, I hope to have a ballin garage 1 day too! Now give AMS a shout and wake that thing up!
|
I LOVE my EVO folks!!
The car is such a great daily driver. Do not F*ck with me! I am always zipping to peoples homes to give bids and this car is perfect for doing business. I almost bought a '99 3000GT VR4 w/ 6k miles on it. Glad I didnt. EVOLUTION! |
does the transmission still bug you?
|
No, the transmission definately doesnt bother me as bad anymore. The shifting is softening up, and the gearing is growing on me. No 6th gear
Im used to the Rx-8 that shifts like butter even at max rpm (which is WAY up there). The Rx-8 also has a 6th gear. The gearbox is SO versitile in the Rx-8. |
Congrats on the purchase.
