Needing some opinions on an Evo X I'm getting..

So, I'm getting my first evo next week. Already been approved for it, and this is after a year of owning my RR Lancer GTS. Which is being traded in for the GG Evo X GSR.

So here's the dilemma I'm facing. The GG Evo X was brought in from the states (I'm in Canada) and it already has 4k miles(7k km?) on it.

GG Evo X GSR, has the Sight, Sound and Spoiler package. Also has some CF fins on front bumper (picture below), it was also lowered yet.. not legally. It was lowered by just cutting the springs. So due to safety reasons the only way they could sell to me is by replacing the existing springs with Eibach aftermarket springs. (good stuff) Which they're doing at no cost to me.

In Canada, we don't get the option of that package. And the price tag on this car is 37,900. The only problem is no warranty... The new GSR from Canada MSRP around 43k doesn't have the spoiler sound sight package however, it's fully warrantied.

I'm planning on doing upgrades though; swapping exhaust, intake system, intercooling, filter, and possibly a reflash in the future (All the good flashers I know of are in the states ._.)

Question is, at 37,9k (Canada dollars) with Sight, Sound, Spoiler + new Eibach Springs and considering the work I'm going to do sound like a good deal even though there is no factory warranty for me? I would have been voiding a lot of the factory warranty anyway right?

Paranoia FTL

It really depends if you are a risk taker or not.

I would say run away and never look back...I personally don't like that the springs were cut...makes me believe that whoever had the car before you...A)couldn't afford to own the car, B) took the cheap way to try to mod it and C) probably beat the hell out of it....

dek0026 Jul 26, 2008 07:10 AM

why was the warranty voided? because it was exported to canada or was something done to it?

ForgottenSky Jul 26, 2008 07:12 AM

Exported to Canada. Since the sales price is cheaper is US they don't offer the Canadian warranty on the US car. (even though it's made in Japan.. lol)

EDIT: A few months back, they were telling me a guy preordered an MR for Canada at the dealer. Threw down 15k down payment. Came back a month later and said he doesn't want it anymore, US offers the car 10k cheaper. (53k msrp fully loaded MR Canada)

So they told him, then go to the states and buy it. You can get the warranty there too since we won't give you factory warranty here.

I would stay clear of this one. Buy a new one.

I did a CARFAX check and the car seemed to be clean.

The report said the vehicle is clean and;

The friend of mine at the dealership here said that it was a company vehicle.

After all of that, and some of the stuff you guys have said (Thanks btw) has backed up my worries. My concerns were that the previous owner used this car hard, and who knows what else...

To get a new one, it required a 5k DP, and this used one was 2.5k DP (down payment)

I got enough for the used, but not the new. I think I may wait until I have enough for the new though (2 months?) since I really don't want to have some horror happen to me by picking up a possible death trap.

Cheers, thanks for the posts.

I would guess that was a car the manufacturer used as a demo for the press. So it was likely flogged around test tracks by multiple people over and over before it was even broken in.

Hmm, my bud said that it was a show car and owned by the owner of the dealership. Even so, as you said, no one knows how hard it was driven before it was even broken in.

Having the springs cut + no warranty seriously didn't help me. I told him I'm going with a new X GSR PB instead. May just take a month to get it, but it will be worth the wait :D

EDIT: yea, I know all about the swirls :x

just negotiate with the dealer, tell them you'll take it for 32k canadian

kinloch99 Jul 26, 2008 08:58 AM

are you kidding, run run run, guy cut the springs, that is so getto, who knows what else he did, if you buy that car you are a dumb arse and deserve what happens to you...

Shady Milkman Jul 26, 2008 12:12 PM

anyone who cut their own springs to lower their car obviously doesnt care that much about the car

i wouldnt touch that car with a 10 foot pole
