car wouldn't start

so i drove to work today (7 miles 1 way) and 2 hours later i went to go to lunch and my car would not turn over for about 10 seconds... wtf is that about?

evoracingstar Mar 27, 2009 02:55 PM

battery dead leave a light on or sutten like that maybe??

Webman Mar 27, 2009 03:19 PM

What do you mean it wouldn't turn over for ten seconds?

Reminder, the term "turn over" refers to when the engine is actually turning and the starter is engaged. NOT when the engine is running.

Starts seem to be slow if you're low on gas, so that could be all or part of your issue...

ryanowarrior Mar 27, 2009 03:28 PM

dang thats weird, wonder if he got it started

JoeyM3 Mar 27, 2009 04:25 PM

i think its a pretty common issue, sometimes it would 2-3 tries to start it, but it hasn't happened to me in a while

EVOX_SPEED3 Mar 27, 2009 04:55 PM

Was it parked on an incline?

jmorris1027 Mar 27, 2009 05:05 PM

You went to lunch 2 hours after you got to work???

Mark B Mar 27, 2009 05:16 PM

He works in Europe

WTFchuck Mar 28, 2009 07:20 AM

^ lol no, i work 8 hours and i come to work at 3, so 5 is my normal "lunch/dinner" time. i wasn't parked on a incline and i had over half tank of gas left. the started just kept goin and the motor would not run. and i didn't leave anything on either so dead battery/close to dead battery is out of the question.

chuck: I had 2 weird things happen when trying to start my X .(smart key)

1st time, cold start. . turned knob and sounded as if battery died, motor never turned over.Imm try again nothing? So back tracked. .turned back off position-grabbed smart key fob-got out and locked it.Waited 10sec-unlocked w/key fob thingy-got in and it started normal.I was scared and pissed at the same time.

Just within last week, morning am cold start (UpState,NY app 24*) got in went to start and barely turned the engine over, not enough to start- put back to off postition. So waited for 3-4 seconds and retried starting it it started rough but then smooth out.

It's not a fuel issue/level etc.I think it's a couple things. .the battery in back (long leads-must lose amps/signal)and smart key.The smart key has F up couple times as well.

Even since it was brand spakin new-it really never seemed to start fast.I don't know to much about the OEM "Panasonic" battery. However this winter I didn't drive my X and once a week or so I would start it-I can say that it always started, even 0* for days/single digits.

I like to check the grounds/add some more grounding if need be.

Same thing happened to my MR about a month ago (had about 2500 miles on it then). It just kept turning over and over(held the starter for about 7 seconds). Tried it a second time, same thing. I was about the think it was tow-time and then it started. hasn't happened since but the car doesn't always fire up on the first revolution of the starter. Usually fires up on the 3rd or 4th revolution of the starter.

About the starting issue. I had the car idling for about 25 minutes and turned it off. When I came back 3 hours later the staring issues began. I didn't check the fuel but I don't think it was low.

I had this issue once with my 08 Evo X MR when I didnt press down on the ignition properly to start the car. Had to unlock the wheel by holding down the ignition and turning the stiff wheel left and right several times before I could get the car to start.
